woo hoo! thanks guys for the info about the pen either today or tomorrow ; i’ll be going to two different art stores, so one of them should have it. thanks! i can’t to touch up my nicked pieces- thats more exciting!!
yes, that eye is REALLY glued in there so i probably should not try to pick it out.plenty of extra glue around it so its well set in there.
in regards to returning the item to the seller, i hindsight now i think i should have done that, but at the time i had the attitude of ” this is my cat candlelamp i’ve been given (by the windstone gods, lol)each one is an individual, and i should just deal with it and be grateful”. i turned it on my other mantle i had it on at the time, so i couldn’t see that eye, it was still there but not bad. i have since moved it around the apt. and it is just too visible when i try to light it any place else, plus i really shouldn’t have to display it in profile, lol. a shop keeper probably wouldn’t have noticed, for someone who isn’t up on them would’t see the space unless they lit it. (u can see that it isn’t set right when it isn’t lit though.)
also, the seller was a forum member and i didn’t want to start trouble or hard feelings, because i had yet to enter the forum, and i didn’t want to possibly be known as “that anal person about the cats’ eyes that wanted to return it” kind of thing.. also on that note, since another windstoner sold it to me, that they must be ok selling it, since i think they said they lit it up to check the true eye color (and had to have seen the off eye, unless they held it at just the right angle maybe), that it wasn’t that bad by other peeps standards and i should deal with it.
i know windstone likes to keep after their quality, and replace damaged shop pieces etc. (which is very generous btw) and i figged either way it might be a more windstone-in-the-end issue, since if i gave it back to the seller, they might take it back to the shop, then they give it back to windstone, lol. i thought i’d do it more directly, to save people trouble. i think thats it in a long winded nutshell, lol. i am a professional rambler, btw.January 13, 2007 at 7:09 pm #527938I wish you the best of luck. Let us all know how well it works

But keep in mind that dealers have a standard process for returning defective pieces, so it might actually be easier Windstone to have the dealer return the piece to Windstone themselves.
One other thought — the seller may have simply overlooked the defect, and may actually have no problem with giving a refund. The people on the forum seem to be very reasonable, so I don’t think there would be any hard feelings.
January 13, 2007 at 7:25 pm #527940thanks DM. by the way congrats on getting your little fledge!! that is FAST gratification, it arriving in just a couple of days! 🙂 if only it was that way with every seller every time! i just got a hatching peacock emp. and a peacock young oriental, and it was agony until they arrived!!!
anyway, i’ll probably go for the good cat candlelamp thats on ebay now, just so i don’t miss out if it stays a good deal. i’ll get karens opinion too when i get a chance to message her. 🙂 thanks!January 13, 2007 at 7:30 pm #527941mimi, this is ancient history now, May i think, lol! ha ha! waaaaay too far back to do anything. i don’t have any hard feelings either, :), things happen sometimes, i’m just happy i have it as it is still a nice piece regardless..
i’ll be back in a couple hours, i need to get my b.f. a balloon for his birthday tomorrow!! lol, he has to have one, but its a surprise! what a goose! 😛January 13, 2007 at 11:48 pm #527942tfsculptures wrote:well this has been bugging me for a while and i couldn’t sit on it anymore. i was almost going to put this in the ask melody section , but i didn’t want to trouble her with something miniscule like this. anyway, i got a good cat candlelamp on ebay and when it arrived i saw immediately that it had a mis-set marble eye, it wasn’t glued in far enough forward so there is a significant gap that shows even when its not lit, but when it is lit it is unbearably off! ack! theres a big old gap you can see clear through to the yellow glow from the flame behind.
anyway, i didn’t know if other peeps had this problem, if the eye socket was just a little tight for the marble and it happened here n there, of if mine is just “special”. it looks way too bad to be lit, so i either thought i would try to chip it out, breaking the glue, but not the marble, as i have good tools, or just break down and buy a whole new one. id hate to do that though as money is tight and i want to have the $$ for the new pieces.
any suggestions from windstone staff or collectors? i know i should get a pic, but its kinda tricky to really capture on film. This dosen’t look right to me. Call us, send it back, and we will fix it. We can fix the dragon as well or send you a paint pen if you want to do it yourself. We are really careful about what we ship so I am always amazed when something like that gets out.
January 14, 2007 at 2:04 am #527943WOW, john, thanks so much!! 😳 i’m all kinds of blushy over here! well, i’m fine with my OW the way he is, i’ll touch him up if i have the guts; he is still so beautiful to me just the way he is! the shop keeper told me he ordered him from you guys in june 06 if that does anything for you. i really appreciate the offer to fix my kitty; i’ll give a buzz monday if you’re open, or tuesday afternoon your time to talk some turkey, and as i said i should have the original box.
i figured you guys would like to know one was out there like that, since you are so careful and uphold such a high level of quality. its a real anomaly/rarity for you guys i’m sure!! as a sculptor myself, i would not collect any other line of collectibles, number one because i have such high standards and critical eyes for what i expect to see, (with other companies leaving messy seamlines, pimples, etc. which takes so little effort to remove) and number two i can’t justify collecting something when i could and should make it myself. not so with windstone!! you guys produce such fabulous products it is a pleasure to buy them knowing that i am supporting an exceptional, caring company with a love for the art itself and doing a great job for the personal satisfaction of it!! that is one winning combination!
thanks again for all your hard work in general and concern for my kitty! i’ll be in touch! 🙂January 14, 2007 at 2:21 am #527944It would be nice to figure out how it got out in the world tha way though. I hvae NEVER seen a defective Windstone unless someone did something to hurt the sculpture
January 14, 2007 at 2:55 am #527945You know…I always wondered about that. I have a emerald Wizard Cat that doesn’t have pink pads on his raised paw. Was that normal too? I have always seen pictures of them with pink pads. 😕 And tha black ones have the pink paw pads.
January 14, 2007 at 3:01 am #527946I just noticed your signature and I LOVE it
January 14, 2007 at 3:20 am #527947Defects in Windstones are rare because they pass through so many different hands (or tiers, if you will) of inspection before they are shipped. However we are all human, not robots with laser scanning equipment, and obviously from time to time things do slip though! It’s been said before in the LJ community but I’ll say it here: if you feel you have a genuine flaw or defect with your Windstone (and not user damage) then your best bet is to contact them- alas there is often not much that can be done with retired pieces that they no longer can make, but I know they will do what they can to help you. You should always feel as if you have a quality product, as so much work goes into these pieces to make them high quality collector’s items. Good luck to everyone. 🙂
In short, if anyone feels they have a genuine defect (such as the mis-glued/set eye), do contact Windstone.

January 14, 2007 at 6:30 am #527950and they provide us with so much entertainment!!
January 14, 2007 at 6:51 am #527951I love the fact that he is different! I wouldn’t want to exchange my Wizard Cat. But I was just curious. At the time I ordered it from Grandio they were on a serious waiting list for back-orders. I just figured they might have slid through that way. He isn’t one of a kind I don’t think. LOL
My sig DM? 😆
