I’m confused as to why this is such a hot topic? People buy things for their own reasons, whether to sell or keep. From the pictures, the wings kinda looked flame-like to me (I believe I said gas flame) and if they look nothing like I was expecting, I’ll probably try to sell or trade. Does that make me a bad person, for selling or trading something that I decided I wanted, but then it was completely different in person?
Or even someone who bought with the intention to sell. It’s a free world. You can’t say someone’s wrong for trying to turn a profit. It seems a little unfair to those who didn’t get a curlie – but, I hate to break it to you, life’s unfair. I hope that’s the worst injustice that you face.
And like it was said earlier… beating a dead horse here. Can’t we just leave things as they are, without getting all pissy over a…. statue? Windstone is trying to be fair to everyone, but I don’t think we’re really being fair. It’s a lot of work to even do what they are doing. Limiting sales, putting out multiple batches, sending email alerts for those on a waiting list? Why do we expect more from a company that’s already done more then what they need to do to keep sales (because we all know that if they just put them out, didn’t tell anyone that they were out, and didn’t limit sales, they’d sell them just as fast. So it’s not economically better for them to do this other stuff. If you factor in time, they’re actually putting in more effort for the same price).
I think we’re really lucky to have people like Susie, Melody, and everyone else at Windstone. And I think we all need to remember that.

Amen. I was tempted to get a curlie when I saw them in the store, because I knew there were people who were going to miss out, and then I’d be able to get it to them. Then I got hit by the thoughts of: 1. there’s probably going to be several people who want it, who would get it? 2. maybe I should not get one, since I don’t collect them and let the collectors have first crack. 3. If I *did* get one to resell, would I be opening myself up to resentment? I did like the “one per” rule for the first batch, it allowed more people to get a curlie that wanted one.
I, too, have missed out on store items (like the beagle griffin family). When that happens, I go 🙁 for a brief moment, then continue on with life and check either the Flea Market/Trade&Swap or eBay in hopes that the item I missed will pop up someday. Sometimes it’s worth the wait. 🙂
Windstone bends over backwards to try and keep us collectors happy. I try never to forget this. 🙂
Windstone collector in remission. 😉
March 31, 2009 at 4:04 pm #758349This is why I left this topic up instead of pulling it down and tossing it in the bomb detonation chamber– this had the potential of getting really ugly (and as some of you know, has in the past), but you guys have proved once again that you’re the best bunch of forum members I’ve known to date! 😀

My art: featherdust.comMarch 31, 2009 at 4:34 pm #758350I’m casting no judgment or flaming, and I do feel the pain of every member who misses out on a piece they really want. And for all of us who can’t camp the store because our lifestyles and/or jobs don’t allow it. It’s very frustrating. =( But I do think this one per person rule is fairer than it was before. Remember when BIN auctions use to sell out in 3 minutes and even members who were camping Ebay all day missed them because people were gobbling them up 3, 4 or 5 at a time? Far more unhappy members back then. So I’m stoked that 50 individual members got the pieces, and that it was spread out among several hours instead of minutes. Not perfect, but still better with more members having a chance.
March 31, 2009 at 5:17 pm #758351Ditto Lokie!
It sucked I didn’t get one, but oh well… there will be more. It is frustrating on one hand to see people who didn’t want them buy them with the intent on trade/profit, but hey, you can’t change it so expending energy on venting about it doesn’t do any good and will normally only give you a headache!
I think it was especially nice to see the one per customer rule, but Windstone already bends over backwards for us all, I hate to put more expectations on them. Plus, if I want to get a present for a friend or someone, the one per rule will get in the way. So either way, it’s a no-win situation. What can ya do? 😕April 1, 2009 at 12:04 am #758352Wait.. we are talking about what so and so and so and so and so says is fair (you get the point everyone has a different opinion) but someone got a personal phone call telling them to get to the store? How fair is that 🙁

Because she asked. and it didn’t matter, she already knew they were there and bought it way before I called. 😉 I didn’t call her till I got home from work, and that was 2 hours after they were in the store. 😈
And actually it was 2 people and I called them at the same time. 😉April 1, 2009 at 1:51 am #758354CherokeeDR wrote:Wait.. we are talking about what so and so and so and so and so says is fair (you get the point everyone has a different opinion) but someone got a personal phone call telling them to get to the store? The phone call wasn’t from Windstone. I think she meant to write that it was one of the friends she’d called in favors from who spotted the curlies up in the store.

That’s because I called her first ;P. I just happened to have a quiet moment at work and to log on about a minute after Susie posted the curlies and I was going to pick up one for her if she wasn’t able to and I couldn’t reach her. It was just dumb luck. 😕 I sent PMs to a few members who had remarked that they were worried they wouldn’t be able to get online as a nice gesture, just in case. 🙂
I do have to say that I liked how the 1 curlie per person worked out (more happy people and they weren’t all gobbled up all at once). With curlies, if the batches were a little bigger (maybe 70 or 80?) with the 1 curlie per person rule, that might be a good idea without too many leftovers. It can be frustrating when a few people buy multiples, then they just end up hitting ebay, but then again, there is no rule saying a person can’t either (it is capitalism after all and they are collectibles…. think about when the Beanie Babies were big or the mad dash when the original Cabbage Patch dolls came out, or more recently, Tickle Me Elmo or the first of any new gaming console, like the Wii! How many of those were promptly sold on Ebay for far more than what they were bought for because the supply didn’t meet the demand?) and everyone has different opinions on the issue. To each their own. :hi:
I agree with star… Windstone does bend over backwards to try and make us happy, which is great, but no one can please everyone all of the time. What works for one will not work for someone else. 😕

Are you talking about what I said? Um… I’m pretty good friends and have actually hung out with someone from this forum few times. She’s a great person and I have her cell and she has mine and we talk on occasion as well. Of course were going to watch out for eachother in the store when something new pops up we think the other may like. Everyone has their friends watching the store for them and buys multiples in the case the other members aren’t online. It’s kinda the same thing if you ask me and also without the double shipping costs 😕
Nobody from Windstone called me. That’s for sure XD

The simple truth is there were only 50 and more than 50 people wanted them. There will be a second batch, and it will be relatively soon. Waiting a few days or even a few weeks won’t kill anybody. I’m still waiting for the spotted griffins to be released again and that’s been quite a while now. I didn’t get any of the 4 types of griffins, but congrats to the people who did and then to the later people who got them from trades or whatever.
I understand really wanting something and not being able to get it because it’s sold out, but I have discovered that almost anything becomes available if you are patient enough. If I had the funds I’d have a Labradorite Male Griffin ( :bye: at Arlla) and those sold before I had a chance to bid on them on ebay. But alas it was not meant to be 🙂
It’s not wrong to buy something to sell it or to buy it to trade it or to keep it forever. It’s not wrong to be frustrated but Windstone is very good about making sure they make enough for of the LP stuff for us all to get one. I missed the pearlie curlies the 1st time around and I eventually got one. *hugs* to the frustrated collectors who have to wait, it’ll be alright.
