I got my order in for one of the first run of Amethyst Curled Dragons. But what I would rather have is one of the purring cats that I missed out on. Any color will do, but I’d really like a grey tabby one. Even trade, one for one? Pwease? (I don’t have it in hand yet, but will be able to ship once it arrives).
See, *this* is the sort of post I was dreading to see. Sadly, due to a medical appointment, I missed out on the Amethyst curlies, a color I really *really* liked (it’s my birthstone) and one I had hoped to get. I thought to myself that for once, it was going to be fair– everyone who really *wanted* one would get a fair chance since it was ‘one per customer’… but again, those lucky enough to sit either in the forum, in the store, or have friends who would haunt said places for them got the curlies even if they really didn’t want it for themselves.
Yes, I get it… this is CAPITALISM, and I should take my whining elsewhere… but it is disheartening that there are folks who wanted one of these dragons for their own collection have to wait for a time in the future when more can be released while people who didn’t even want one (sorry, but no one has one in hand, so how can you have wanted it, but when you got it you were less than enchanted?) can now look for ‘better things in trade’.
Everyone can commence rolling eyes at my thoughts, or flaming me… sorry if my thoughts bother others, but when I left, it was as if the curlies would be out some day coming up and then POOF all gone in under 3 hours. I think I’m giving up on limited items from here on; its not worth the upset. ::shrug::
That said, I truly do hope you get the item you most want that really *will* make you happy in trade. My thoughts aren’t those of the universe, just my own. 🙂

March 27, 2009 at 2:46 am #497876March 27, 2009 at 10:05 am #758305I think Nytetyger speaks for alot of people who are too scared to post due to flamers. I personally think it’s just a shame that the opportunity is there for people to buy new limited run Windstones that they don’t want whilst others who do want them miss out. I’m not blaming the original poster at all because the opportunity is there afterall, so they’re only taking advantage of it and that’s their prerogative. But it would be nice for everyone to get a fair chance at obtaining them in the first place as not everyone can sit refreshing in the forum/store all day. The system itself is flawed.
I too was disappointed that they were gone in so few hours and it really does make Windstone collecting more like a “hunt” than ever and is rather discouraging to me personally. To be honest I prefer Windstone’s Ebay auctions since at least I stand a chance at getting something. Now for a proposed solution. Perhaps staggering the release of new items over a 12 or 24 hour period instead of one big update might help everyone who wants one stand a chance of getting one of the new items? Seems a productive idea for the future. I’d rather refresh the store for one hour rather than spend my entire evening refreshing the store. 🙂
March 27, 2009 at 4:26 pm #758306I agree with Nytetyger, and Misato on this subject. If you didn’t want one, why didn’t you pass them by and let the people who really wanted them buy them. I might even suggest this is a scam, or a-kin to abusing the site.
my two cents/opinion.

Are you sure you want to try to do an even trade on this? I wish you luck!

I guess I ought to keep my mouth shut to avoid burning anyone, but really, guys, these are COLLECTIBLES we are buying.
We all collect stuff for different and personal reasons, and the way we go about collecting things is also personal.
I think none of us would care to be told that our method of acquiring things is immoral solely because our reason for wanting something is considered to be spurious by someone else’s standards.
I had a customer who was unable to buy an Amethyst Curlie because her computer was playing up, or something. Anyway, she asked me if I’d get one and she’d pay me a handling fee. If I’d not been too late, and had actually managed to acquire one, which of us (me, or my customer, or the pair of us) would be in trouble here? I’d have been buying just the one, as per the rules, but I’d have been buying it without the intention of adding it to my own collection. And my customer would have been getting a Curlie that otherwise would have gone to another collector.
And perhaps that other collector, who in real life actually did get one, was REALLY REALLY wanting an Amethyst Curlie. Perhaps she would have scored a 960 on the Jones scale of needing stuff, whereas my customer may have only been around 430.
Heck. For all I know, my own customer may have been wanting the Curlie in order to trade it off to someone else for something else. I didn’t ask why she was wanting one any more than Windstone Editions would have asked me.
Perhaps what Windstone should do is have everyone take a Jones test, as part of the order process, where if you score less than 600 you get a “403: You’re Not Worthy” message.
Windstone Editions sculptures are collectibles. People collect things for different reasons. I collect Windstones partly because I really like them, but mostly in order to resell them to other collectors to help pay my rent because I can’t actually afford to keep them for myself. Does this mean I am less worthy to own a Windstone sculpture than everyone else here? That I have no moral right to make a purchase through the Windstone store?
That’s a pretty harsh judgment, there.
March 27, 2009 at 6:37 pm #758309Well said Dave!
Everyone should remember that buying with the intention to sell (or trade) has always been a “button-pushing” topics that forum members can never seem to agree on.

March 27, 2009 at 9:05 pm #758311I think you guys are being cruel. Maybe when Thunderwing picked up the curlie maybe she/he really wanted it. But, decided oh, I really, really want a purring cat. Which I know this person does. If I do decide to part with my cat I’ll probably offer it to Thunderwing first. Sometimes I buy something and then have a bout of buyers remorse. Doesn’t make me a bad person, does it? But, if I decided to sell that item, instead of deciding to call Windstone and cancel the order, making more work for whoever is in the office. I guess that would make me a bad person.
I honestly don’t see anything wrong with what Thunderwing is doing.
March 27, 2009 at 9:53 pm #758312I’m leaving this up for discussion as long as things don’t get ugly. This has come up time and time again…. and I truly do sympathize with those that missed out and understand your frustration (I can very very rarely get the pieces I want either), but I have to agree with Dave here.
Nytetyger and Misato, I didn’t delete or hide your posts because I want you to know that we are listening and you shouldn’t be afraid to post your thoughts, but please do be careful not to be judgemental.
No one should be ‘flamed’ and if anyone is feeling that way, please come to me. The problem with reading text is that we tend to put our own emotions into it… and sometimes that’s not the emotion that the original poster wanted to convey. That said, if someone feels anyone is being outwardly nasty or ugly to them, please do let me know so I can try and resolve it.

My art: featherdust.comMarch 27, 2009 at 10:28 pm #758313I disagree that deciding to trade the amethyst curlie is the wrong thing to do–and I have a trade offer for mine right now. It is like collecting sportscards, when I used to go into a sportcard shop, because I had opened up a pack, and got a card that was “hot” at the moment, they would be all over it, and be willing to trade me for something that was of equal value, but was an older mint card, but in the long run, it was a better investment for me. I also knew that later, that card I traded them would not be so “hot”, and if I really wanted it later, I could pick it up for a song. I collect for long term, the seller is looking for what they can sell the fastest. Nothing is “hotter” than the amethyst curlie now, I know there is another batch coming along, and yes, I do have time to look at the store to watch for when they come out again, so I guess It’s not the most important thing in the world that I have one from the FIRST batch–it’s not like they’re signed or anything. So I am looking for a curlie that may not be made for a long time again, if ever, and I don’t want to pay inflated prices for it, if it ends up on Ebay. That’s my opinion.

As I said, I was trying NOT to inject any anger into it– I even wished the OP well on their search for a trade. 😀 And yes, I do get it– these are COLLECTIBLES, as I was reminded, and thus its a free market; I do know they’re not food, or shelter ::grin::. Thank you for setting up the thread, Nam. 🙂
All I had hoped to impart is that this was a KNOWN limited FIRST release– there would be MORE of them out later for a person who was “meh” on the curlie, but really into a purring cat. It wasn’t a hidden conceit here– Melody herself realized these would be mega popular, as did Windstone– hence the ‘one per customer’ thing for this first release. And heck, I even said I understood, had the OP *gotten* said curlie and went “um.. liked the picture a LOT better” and posted it *then*; the reason I made the post I did was that this was RIGHT AFTER the selling out, and heck, the *same* post looking for a trade was used in the “got one!” thread, which yeah, did kinda feel like a “neener neener”.
I’ve all sorts of collectibles; I like dust collectors, I’ve been told, and I’ve been lucky in finds and duped in others. I just rather hoped that someone who was a part of the forum, who knew that there were folks really eager for these might have chosen to wait to buy one for trade until batch two was released. Hey, but that’s just my thoughts on it, everyone’s mileage may vary. ::shrug::
March 27, 2009 at 10:34 pm #758315ok I understand what you’re saying about maybe people didn’t truly want their Amethyst curlie, but I assure you, I definitely do want one, and I doubt somebody will trade me, so if they don’t, at least I have the amethyst curlie to comfort me in the meantime. I also still want to get one for my aunt for her birthday, so I do want more. squeek*
March 27, 2009 at 10:37 pm #758316😀 I would rather see people on the Windstone forums trade. It is much better then people putting them on ebay for $300.
