For the first time ever..I went to see the Stage production of Cats!
I have seen Phantom of the Opera and I love Andrew Lloyd Webber….
But I was blown away by Cats! The actors were not only wonderful vocalists, but they are also fantastic acrobats! I was able to get front row tickets at center stage and I was simply blown away!
Fantastic production, very much a fun and entertaining evening..like going to see a Cirque du Soleil presentation…
December 7, 2007 at 3:27 am #493561December 7, 2007 at 3:29 am #643152I’ve seen Cats. I was amazed too!!! I love the costumes and the makeup. They really do capture the look/feel of cats. 🙂
December 7, 2007 at 4:25 am #643153Yay, another ALW fan!
Aw, I’m so jealous! CATS is awesome! I went when I was younger (late 80’s – OMG! It’s been almost 20 years!) when I lived in England… the stage was set up with tubes underneath it so they’d come out where people sat during a song. I don’t remember who it was in our group that was sat upon by one of them…. I’d sure be curious to see it again now if they’re doing more acrobatic stuff. It’s amazing to see the same show more than once if you can do it several years apart. Starlight Express changed a lot between the 2 times I saw that, but Phantom is still my fave. =)December 7, 2007 at 5:53 am #643154Oh you lucky dog! I have always wanted to see Cats!
December 7, 2007 at 6:07 am #643155I LOVE Cats! If you guys like the musical you should read TS Eliot. Cats is based on his poetry, particularly the Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, but you can see the imagary from his poems throughout the musical.
December 7, 2007 at 6:09 am #643156I’ve never been to an actual musical, but I bet it’s fun. We have Cats on DVD, but I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet…
December 7, 2007 at 10:45 am #643157I’ve been to several musicals… but Cats I have missed completely. I was thinking about going to see the musical when I get my lazy butt to England… Well, IF I get my lazy butt to England. But I’d truly like to see the musical. I’ve only seen bits of it.
December 7, 2007 at 1:29 pm #643158Congrats on getting to go!!! I’ve always wanted to. I’m glad it was awesome! 😀 😀
December 7, 2007 at 1:56 pm #643159Lucky!!! I always wanted to see that show and the Phantom of the Opera. I’ve seen Cats on tv, and thought it was great. But, I can only imagine how it is in person.
December 7, 2007 at 4:26 pm #643160Cats was the very first broadway play I ever saw. Since I live in NJ my HS’s senior trip is to see a show and we picked Cats! Plus we got to see it with Betty Buckley! Talk about completely amazing.
And I love Cirque du Soleil too. Just went to see Wintertuk. It was good but not their best show. The second half was a lot better than the first.
December 7, 2007 at 4:31 pm #643161I went to see “Cats.” It wasn’t what I expected, since there’s no real story or in-depth plot line. It’s more like a cat audition. Of course, I could see the ending coming from the start, so there was no real mystery or surprise at the end. Needless to say, I didn’t really like it. It was very disappointing too, since I had wanted to see it for most of my life. Sorry, that’s just my opinion.
December 7, 2007 at 4:52 pm #643162That’s okay, Em. We won’t hold it against ya 🙂 . To be honest, if I were to see it again now, I may not like it either. I just remember it being awesome 16-18 years ago. I do know that I really disliked the 1998 DVD… and that was halfway between when I saw it in person & now. So maybe it’s just the memory of the event (and the couple songs that I like). I should probably avoid going again if ever given the chance (just in case)….

It is one of those things that I could see some people not liking, because it almost seems disorganized with no real plot, but I knew it would be like that and knew not to expect a plot.
So it certainly isn’t something everyone would like.
December 7, 2007 at 5:10 pm #643164I saw the stage production when it was in Atlanta and thought it was great. It has been at the Kravis in WPBeach but I didn’t get to see it there because it was sold out. I did purchase the VHS tape a number of years ago and it is captioned so I can understand everything that is being said or sung.
