Who misplaces important papers and later can’t find them? I put these things in places where I feel they will be safe and where I’ll be able to find them. NOT! They’re safe all right–from me! :~
I was getting my paperwork all in order and couldn’t find my financial contract when I purchased my car. It just ticks me off that I do this–constantly! I never did things like this before so I’m afraid that I’m now losing it.
Anyone else do this?
January 25, 2012 at 7:50 pm #870774Like, five times a day.
I have a special way to file things.
I scan important papers with the copier/ scanner thing, and that is where I file my vital papers; stuck to the upper lid of the copier. Safe a place as any, but the last place you look.We are also capable of loosing entire carts full of things, Secret Keepers, and large pieces of equipment… we are professionals.

January 25, 2012 at 7:57 pm #870778I do this constantly!!! I blame it on the oh so not cute paper work GREMLINS. Those darn things wander my house and make anything I might actually need vanish…..not to be seen again until I have hunted up an alernate way of dealing with stuff I required. I swear that though I never see these little #*!%^#! they are there………..lurking….waiting for me to put the document down……..I turn my back……believing I will find the papers no problem when I need them…….andthen………
AHHHHHHHHH…..POOF…….they’re freakin gone!!!
I totally understand and you are not alone!
Can anyone else sense my tension with the house GREMLINS HEHEHEHEHEJanuary 25, 2012 at 8:01 pm #870779What, the rest of you only do this with PAPER?! I’m seriously envious!
Around here, unless it has a very specific assigned spot AND I’m the only one to ever touch it or use it, it disappears into this rats’ nest of a two-collector/too many hobbies house, and if we’re lucky, it might show up again before we buy a duplicate (that will also likely disappear).
My husband, God love him, puts all the cooking utensils away in different drawers every single time he empties the dishwasher. (Thankfully, he also is the primary cook.)
So no, you’re not the only one by a long shot! LOL
January 25, 2012 at 8:29 pm #870786Oh yeah. With all kinds of things. I think “I’ll put this somewhere I’ll remember,” then find that “somewhere” then put my object there, thinking “yep, I’ll remember this.” Nope. I don’t remember. I remember thinking I’ll remember, but that almost never leads me to my hiding spot.
January 25, 2012 at 8:44 pm #870793I put things in certain places where I know where they are…
I find it is others that move it, it used to be my mother when I still lived at home, nothing was ever where I left it when I’d come looking…now, it’s my husband, he likes to move things in piles to other parts of the apartment then use up the rest of the little coffee table to “explode” his stuff outward daily….
4 things I'm looking for:
1. Mother Meerkat
2. production color Sitting Young Oriental dragons to be made in more colors besides VF, Brimstone would be awesome!
3. Female Griffin – Siamese with White
4. September Raffle Prize 2022 AHD Male GriffinJanuary 25, 2012 at 8:52 pm #870795Constantly. If it’s personal papers it will go missing, I swear the dragons are making nests with them! And of course you find the darned things when you don’t need them or after you got a replacement.
The funny thing is in the rest of my life (school and work) I’m super orgnaized and rarely if ever loose anything. :pJanuary 25, 2012 at 10:13 pm #870810I have 2 t-shirts being made up. ” I know I came in this room for something”, and “I know I put it somewhere safe”. Welcome to the club!!!! I prefer not to attribute this to old age—just an overactive, overachieving brain.
January 25, 2012 at 10:55 pm #870813I do it with all sorts of things! But what I’ve done to help with the paperwork issue, is I have one of those plastic filing folders, and it gets put in there! – If I’m going to need it in a recent time (Bills), I have a small drawer that is nothing but important paperwork! –
Now small items that aren’t “paperwork” those are the ones I’m worst with XD or whatever I was drinking/my cell phone/sunglasses/keys. Those things I will sit down (Without paying attention to the action of setting it down) and have *no* memory at all of where it got put! I’ll find myself wandering around the house looking for a can of soda or bottle of water I had, I swear, 30 seconds prior to this moment in my hand! haha. and lord knows how many times someone has had to call my phone so I could find it XD
January 25, 2012 at 10:58 pm #870815Snerk! 🙂 I see I’m not the only one who does this! I must try your filing system, Melody. The mantra in my house is ‘I just had it in my hands’. I swear I’ll put something down, right in front of me and turn around and it’s gone! It must have sprouted legs and walked off! I sometimes think I’m going crazy–like it was just there.
Then I have a bunch of Poads–I think they like to make off with stuff. As I go through my stuff I’m sure I’ll find lost paperwork and more in a Poad’s nest. As long as they give me baby Poads, I won’t mind.
My sister emailed me to say that she has lost her birth certificate and some legal papers so I don’t feel too bad. Still, the old mind isn’t what it used to be.
January 25, 2012 at 11:21 pm #870821Oh goodness, yes. And it’s especially horrifying as I have to keep track of about a billion things since I’m self employed. I always seem to lose my Sales Tax permit, which is 100% necessary to have for selling at an event, about two days before the event…

At least it’s not like 2 minutes before you have to leave. That’s when I usually notice I’m missing something essential.
January 26, 2012 at 12:02 am #870833Oh my favorite line is “I’ll put it here, that way I won’t lose it or forget it.” Then I promptly lose it or forget it and go berserk trying to find it later.
