there is a piece i want on ebay. the seller has the original box and will ship the statue only in that box wrapped in brown paper–to keep the original box in good shape. should i just pass on this shipping method? i am kind of leary that the piece will arrive in one piece. the box might come unscuffed, but how well will the statue arrive?
i fear that if i ask for double boxing, i will not get it.
any comments or suggestions?
thank you. 🙂
March 14, 2007 at 2:06 pm #551675I would ask for double boxing… Maybe offer to pay a few bucks extra to cover the cost… I did have my tan griffy shipped that way, and he arrived fine, but since I’ve always requested double boxing. If they have a problem honoring your wishes in something that trivial, I’m not sure that would be a seller I’d ever want to use…. I mean, really… How hard is it to go buy an extra box… I get them all the time at WalMart for less than 3 bucks…
March 14, 2007 at 2:21 pm #551676It would also depend on if it was a bigger piece or a smaller piece. The bigger pieces have cut-out inserts that are in the shape of the item to cradle it securely. This way may be okay, as long as they ship it Priority Mail with insurance. The post office seems to treat those better and they don’t have them too long to break them.
The smaller pieces are wrapped in a plastic bag, then paper inside the box. I wouldn’t trust those to go through the mail, although Watergazer sent me a PYO wolf that way, and it arrived safely. So you never know.
March 14, 2007 at 3:18 pm #551677I have never had one break when it was shipped in its original box. One or two others have, though. I would just ask them to double box, and get insurance. 🙂
March 14, 2007 at 4:13 pm #551678Tell them that you would REALLY like to have it double boxed, and if it costs them anything extra for box and/or packing matterials you are more than willing to pay a little extra. Usualy they’re more than compliant if you are nice about it. Good luck!
March 14, 2007 at 5:22 pm #551679Yep, I agree. You should ask them nicely to double box. You might want to add for your peice of mind to it. Good luck and I hope it arrives without harm.
March 14, 2007 at 5:24 pm #551680Just offer 10 bucks to have it double boxed. Most will take you up on that cause its extra in their pocket!
