December 23, 2007 at 9:42 pm #647028Back and forth 😆 they both catch up with each other 🙄
December 24, 2007 at 2:25 am #647029I don’t know who took what photo (so of course my opinions are 100% unbiased!!) but I voted for the hummingbird. I understand the difficulty of taking photos of wildlife in their natural habitats! True, getting good photos of domestic and zoo animals is trying and takes a lot of skill too (I know!), but getting a good shot of a wild animal is just that much harder and warrants much patience, skill and timing. Yes, you can predict that a hummingbird will visit a flower grouping and be ready, but those little guys don’t even hold still when sitting on a branch, less feeding, so it takes some real talent (or luck) to get good photos of them such as this! 🙂 Kudos to the photographer.
For all the photos:
Chipmunk- This is a nice one- good use of depth of field. The Chipmunk is crisp and the petunias are blurred just enough so that the are not a distraction.
Raccoon- This piece is really nicely framed by the ferns, giving the viewer the impression that they are peeking out into the ‘coons world.
Polar Bears- This is a great use of black and white contrast!
Curled cats- A fine demonstration of repeating patterns creating a pleasing image. The mirror like image of the two cats, especially given the same eye color, is pleasing to the eyes.
Spock- What can I say? This one is just cute. We all know that flowers are tastey!
Pebbles- This is a great use of depth of field. The cat is not looking directly at the viewer which leads one to speculate what the cat is looking at/thinking. This pulls the viewer into the photo more. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to have the cat’s face off the center line. Having it more to the bottom or top would create a more pleasing composition.
Modern Dragon- Beautiful textures and color range. Again the repetition of pattern between the pebble-like scales on the iguana and the stones in his enclosure are pleasing.
Water- Great composition!! The heavy, dark branches to one side and the light goose on the other, and the horizon/subject matter being below the middle of the photos really looks wonderful.
Shy English Dove- This is one of those photos that really makes you smile. At first glance you are presented with a structure with repeating shapes, and then you look closer and see the dove sitting within.
Looking at Youz- This is one of those classic photos that has a lot of appeal. The animal is staring at the viewer, making a goofy face. People easily relate to silly faces and this is no exception.
Kangaroos- A touching moment between the kangaroos.. or a playful one? There is a story here and this is an appealing element.
Laughing at you- Even though this is a snapshot, it gives us a glimpse in a fraction of a second in time when the cat’s face is so contorted by a yawn that it becomes an entirely different shape. This is classic!
Two Cats- Awww. There is nothing quite like a kitten!!
