The latest colt on eBay is really nice. It shot up in price pretty quickly. I think I have seen some baby ones that match it so maybe someone is trying to get a matching pair. Really love the blue and purple paint and spots.
July 25, 2015 at 2:21 am #932360Y’all are absolutely right that anyone has every right to buy what they can afford and if they are so fortunate as to be able to outbid virtually anyone on something they really want, it is their business. But I think it is perfectly understandable to be frustrated when you feel defeated as soon as you see that a particular bidder is bidding on something you really want. And it may be their right, but while I am not going to resort to the playground and stomp my foot and say “That’s not fair!” – (which no one has done- I am just making an illustration) , I do think (IMO) it reasonable to say that it is less than “sportsmanlike”. I think there are more than a few of us who at one time or another have declined to bid on something we may have liked because we knew someone else REALLY wanted it.
Of course, it is possible the bidder that I think most of us are referring to has nothing to do with the forum and is completely clueless that SOME may consider them to be “hogging” many of the best pieces. And I am more than willing to admit that the green-eyed monster is perched on my shoulder as I write this and that this is definitely NOT one of my shining moments.July 25, 2015 at 2:25 am #932362Oh my gosh! Wow, you weren’t kidding about that uni shooting up quickly – has anything ever gone over $300 that fast?

Well, the leopard tanuki got to $239.50 in under eight minutes.
The Grab Bag Young Unicorn (it’s not a colt) is awesome! Another lovely “rehab” project.
Life is beautiful.

July 27, 2015 at 4:53 am #932423Well, I didn’t expect to see the discussion that I did coming into this thread, and it’s opened a few old wounds…
I certainly have never had the funds to win a lot of ebay auctions, but I can understand from personal experience how it feels to 1) have someone come on the forum and rant about not winning a piece on ebay that I had won and have other forum members support them in said rant and 2) have someone actually admit on the forum that they had driven up the price on a piece that I had won because they had bought a similar piece for a higher price and didn’t think the piece should be at a lower price. It’s hurtful to see this stuff posted openly on the forum, and it’s the main reason that while I show pictures of my grab bags in order to gauge interest for trading, I will rarely, if ever, show pictures of my collection, particularly the ebay pieces.
Trust me guys, I share your frustration with not getting pieces that you desire. I’ve got my grail pieces too (Labradorite griffins), and I’ve lost the bid every time one has shown up for sale second hand. But, I will never begrudge their new owners (they ARE really nice peices coveted by MANY people), and I think we really need to be civil here. As mentioned by others already, you do not know the situation of the person winning the pieces or what the pieces actually mean to them personally. You also don’t know if they are members of the forum or frequently visit the forum.
Please understand that I’m not trying to offend anyone, but I do want to provide insight as someone who has been on the other side. I hope that we as a community can get to the point where, even though we are frustrated when we lose, we can congratulate and be positive towards the people who win these pieces.
July 27, 2015 at 6:22 am #932424I think the difference in what is going on here is that up til now there have never been this many pebbles like wolves, foxes and cougars being listed on eBay all at once so to see one or two people winning them all is not something we have been used to seeing. What I have noticed on many of the auctions has been the fact that it appears anyone has a chance at the item up until the last few minutes and then the piece might jump from $200 or $300 up to $600 or $1000 with the same person sniping every time. Now there is nothing wrong with sniping but my frustration comes from the fact that that if a person has no limit to what they can spend and will just place a bid for any amount at the end, then it just seems pointless for anyone else to even try bidding or get their emotions involved in a bid if the piece is suddenly going to double or triple in price in the last minute. I actually appreciate it when people bid their max amount early so at least people can back out or know something will be out of their price range before the very end.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
July 27, 2015 at 7:58 am #932425The person winning most of the cougar auctions is winning because she/he put in the highest bid and not because they “sniped” and put in the last bid. I put in the last bid by a second in a few of the cougar auctions but did not win BECAUSE someone else put in a higher bid. That is how eBay works. It is a business. People around the world can bid on the pieces Windstone offers, not just forum members.
As far as “a person has no limit to what they can spend and will just place a bid for any amount at the end,” if that were the case the same person would win every auction she was bidding on. She didn’t. Her max bids varied considerably, probably based on how much she wanted the item. I went high on one of the cougars because that particular cougar was worth that much to me. I did not go that high on others because they were NOT worth that much to me. I put in my maximum bid at the last second. I have no time to rebid, but that is the point. It was my maximum bid, and I don’t want the time to click, click, click and spend more than I intended. If I win, great. If I don’t, I console myself by thinking of all the money I saved.
July 27, 2015 at 8:47 am #932426Actually this is how it use to be BEFORE we had GB’s. Also selling these pieces on Ebay like this could help keep the prices on the GB’s down.
If a person has the money to afford a few of these pieces at the price they are going for then so be it but you really can’t be mad at them for getting them while they can.
Melody has always taken care of us when it comes to the GB’s and I have no doubt she will continue to do that.

Amen. The GBs gave people a chance to have a special piece without ebay prices and took some of the impetus away from the test paints (which used to be the only special pieces).
