January 25, 2015 at 7:28 pm #924596man that quagga went for a lot
It seems about right to me. I would say that the recent pieces have been going for relatively little. [shrug emoticon that we don’t have any more since the Forum changed]
I agree (says the girl who paid $900 for a mother griffin, $800 for a Rock Dragon, and $700 for an Emperor) ebay pieces are freaking steals now a days.
I feel like *must say in rickety old lady voice* “Well, I remember when I was just a wee little collector you had to save $500 just to buy a curlie on ebay!” Now a days you can afford one and still have enough to pay your bills! LOL!
so……this!!! There have been a few eBay pieces lately that have sold for less than store price on a production piece. Amazing…..I have felt badly for Melody on this. 🙁

I had the same feeling (says the girl who bought her share of test paints for $500+ (including some Barn Swallow ones 😉 ). On the other hand, there are a lot more things available in the store now. It no longer is “test paint or nothing” to get new Windstones, and I think that has affected the market for many of the test paints.
You and Drag0n and I can march side by side, pushing our walkers and exchanging stories of test paints we bought back in the day. 😀

I was actually thinking it was probably the abundance of grab bags that is keeping ebay prices down. It use to be the only place to get a OOAK Windstone piece (or even a piece in a limited run) was to battle it out on Ebay. Now OOAK pieces are a dime a dozen and can be obtained directly out of the Windstone store at a fixed price so there is no competition to drive up prices. I’m sure there are other factors involved (like the economy for those who are broke, Special Items section in the Windstone store for those who have the money to spend now), but If I was to wager a guess, the grab bags probably have hurt the ebay market. On top of that, when there is competition (driving up of prices), its on the secondary market with reselling of grab bags, so Windstone doesn’t get a cut of that.
January 26, 2015 at 11:47 am #924629I’m sorta glad that some of the eBay Special pieces have been lower recently. I couldn’t afford a piece that is pushing $300+, nor would I be able to justify acquiring one instead of paying other necessary bills. I’m happy that I have been able to get one Special Store piece, and two eBay pieces, but I wouldn’t have been able to touch them if they had gone for much more than they did.
I do agree that some special pieces are easily worth $500 – $1500, but I doubt I’d ever be able to afford one. And, I hope the Grab Bags keep coming! It’s the perfect way to acquire some of Melody’s OOAK signed pieces that are affordable and in a variety of the sculpts.
Thanks for Everything, Mel – Especially for having some wonderful and affordable Grab Bags for those of us with limited funds! 🙂IN SEARCH OF MY NEXT GRAILS:

*** Come visit me on deviantArt at http://ela-hara.deviantart.comJanuary 26, 2015 at 3:09 pm #924619I think grab bags are competition for the ebay pieces because of people spending all their money on those and then not having enough left for ebay pieces. With that said though, I am grateful for grab bags because they are lower prices. I have liked a few ebay pieces but just did not have the money to bid on them. I think as well that the more special pieces that are released, the less they go for for because there may be too much supply and not enough collectors who have the space or money for them. I don’t have the space to display or store many more pieces myself.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!

LOL! I snorted when I read that last part ^_^
I can agree on what Kim said, everybody clamoring for Garb Bags may not have everything to do with it, but I’m sure it doesn’t help. I realize now it’s great all collectors can have some one of a kind items, (and I love them myself) but sometimes I wonder if it hurts as much as it helps
I still think if they SLAP the word GRAB BAG on their auctions people will loose their mind and start bidding like crazy… Jedi mind trick!

Don’t forget me too! I haz walker! haha I was just admiring my “Sky” test painted eyes shut silver tabby I got direct from Windstone probably around 2009ish and paid $525 for. (She *is* gorgeous though) I won the test paint “Sour Apple” cat wizard for less than store price, and got a patriotic “Spirit” test paint male pegasus for maybe $150 and I think he’s gorgeous! He reminds me of my dear departed grandpa who was an old cowboy. But yeah-I thought the price drop was due to the fact that other painters besides Melody have been primarily painting things for ebay. Not to say that Patricia Smith and Brandi aren’t very talented but IMO, some of her paint schemes were too strange-but then again, I’ve seen those “strange” or “ugly” colors on people’s wish lists so to each their own.
and uh yeah. I got the email from ebay saying that piebald paint Grand unicorn auction had ended…sold for over $1,000. I literally yelled out “HOLY S-” I mean, YAY FOR WINDSTONE but I haven’t seen a non SK piece go for that since the last of Olympia’s Old Warriors (Mineral Springs) popped up on ebay a while back. But Olympia was a whiz with that airbrush-I have several of her pieces and they are flawless and touched in magic gold glitter *says dreamily* she hasn’t been at Windstone for years, so I expected that piece to go for a lot.
Look at us-sittin’ around talking Windstone economics lol
