Well I tried to bid on a leopard and was okay with not winning. But after looking at the bids I am a little bit frustrated after noticing that one bidder has won almost every cougar and also quite a few wolves and other pebbles before these and their bids seem to go up to endless amounts. So I almost feel like there is just no point in bidding on anything if one person with money is going to snipe it whether it’s $300 or $1000. It makes me wonder why the same bidder would want two red leopards instead of letting others have a chance at one that was almost identical to one they already won? I am just glad grab bags exist because this has just taken any fun out of bidding on anything now. End of rant.
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
July 23, 2015 at 10:58 am #932272Ok, Kim, I’ll admit you got me curious and I went back and checked the most recent completed cougar auctions. Of the past 10 cougar auctions, five were won by one bidder, three were won by a second bidder, one was won by a third bidder, and one a fourth bidder.
But, hey, I don’t begrudge anyone a thing! If you have the money and that is what you want to spend it on, more power to you and you get my congratulations! I can see how some people would prefer to bid on one at auction that they know they like than take a chance on the grab bag and get one they don’t particularly care for. Plus, we all know the auction cougars are usually more detailed than the grabs bags.
But, yes, I am grateful for the grab bags as well!
I would love to see pictures of those bidder’s collections. It would be amazing to see all those pieces all together.
July 23, 2015 at 11:57 am #932274You know, it’s also possible that the winner bidder on most of those Cougars and other items might have been a Dealer, not one of us from the Forums.
Gee… I don’t even have enough disposable cash to bid on an eBay piece that is close to $300, let along some of the $500+ bids! Wish I did, though. 🙂

I missed out on every single gb koi-rin that was auctioned on ebay by Windstone. Almost all (if not all) were purchased by the same bidder and no way to recounter with a higher bid (probably using an auction sniper program that places bids for you). Definitely was more than a little frustrating and much cursing at the computer. Deep pockets are good for Windstone, but man, how frustrating when you can’t even grab one and someone grabs them all! I at least managed to get a koi and a fantasy one I like through the store, so I am very greatful for those and I’m sure if I’m very patient, one or two will pop up later on second-hand. First world problems. 🙂 I get to head on a nice vacation though and a koi-rin wouldn’t have bought me that. 😉

I really feel you on this one. I haven’t bid on any of the cougars, but SEVERAL years ago eBay was flooded with a really popular type of item and only one or two bidders with super deep pockets were winning almost ALL the auctions over and over again! It was so frustrating! I admit I ended up becoming irritated enough to end up with the philosophy of, ‘If you want to pay so much, far be it from me not to help you out!’ ^_^; Spiteful behavior? Absolutely. On reflection I wouldn’t recommend it either, it bit me in the butt once or twice when I ended up winning the auctions by surprise. Not to mention it’s kind of mean. Though I’m sure the sellers loved it at the time.
Now I try to bid only what I can afford to part with, JUST IN CASE.

Would be absolutely gobsmacked if the grab bag looked like these guys. SO pretty. I do especially like the copper spotting on Grab Bag Test Paint #5. It’s really quite a unique paint scheme. But I would hypothetically give my left ovary for either of these guys. 😀 -laughs-
1 & 3 were tied for first place for me, with 2 as a really close second. I’m not (quite) ready to give up body parts, 😉 so I’m looking forward to the GB batch and hoping I’ll get one that’s similar to one of these.
It’s okay Scathach! I don’t need that particular body part…so if I can get something I’d rather have instead…. 😉

July 23, 2015 at 10:40 pm #932298Well I would love a leopard cougar, hopefully from the grab bag but I actually tried to bid on the red one thinking that I could maybe trade it to someone who really wanted a red leopard. I hope whoever won them might post pictures or trade them in the future although I kind of get the feeling the don’t post on this forum. I noticed there was a second bidder that also kept missing out so I know how you feel mystery bidder!

Kim, I am not trying to pick on you at all, and I’m sorry if it sounds that way, but let me get this straight – you bid on the red leopard because you hoped you could win it so you could trade it. But you were outbid by someone who, most likely, really wanted it for their collection. And the “second bidder” who kept “missing out” actually won three of the last ten. Am I understanding correctly?
I hope the winner would post pictures on this forum, too – I would love to see that collection! But I doubt they would after being slammed for winning so many.
So, if you are on this forum – congratulations to you, Windstone cougar collector! 🙂

You’re quite right! I’m happy I can afford the pieces I have and applaud the good fortune of the winners.
Sure, I’d like to be able to afford some of the eBay pieces. But, I’d like to be able to afford a Ferrari, too. That’s not in the cards at present, either. Not everyone is in the same place financially and it’s not really anyone’s concern of who gets what or how many. eBay isn’t a “one per” structure and no one can say that it’s “not fair” or the bidder shouldn’t buy something just because they got one already. If the winners are forum members, it’s no wonder they don’t post pictures when there are negative comments about them and the pieces they’ve won.
I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Grab Bag Cougars and hope that I’ll get one that’s even half as nice as the ones on eBay.
Life is beautiful.
July 24, 2015 at 11:33 am #932320No, I bid because I wanted a leopard but wasn’t picky about the colour. The winner had already won the first red leopard along with others. I thought if I could get another leopard in a grab bag I could trade the red one to someone on here who posted they really wanted a red one but couldn’t afford to bid now. If the winner is nice enough to do the same that would be awesome but we don’t know. All I was thinking is how it would be nice to win one for someone who really wanted one instead of it going to someone who already got one. I didn’t look up how many the other bidder won, just noticed a pattern. Anyway it’s not a big deal and I only posted it here because I didn’t think it was anyone on the forum. I realize there is no limit to what anyone can buy on ebay but I guess with all the cougars going on ebay first before a grab bag I have been thinking with more of a grab bag mentality of how it would be nice for everyone to have a chance at one. I think I will just stick to grab bags.

There does seem to be people that bid stuff up on ebay auctions and then after winning, turn around and sell stuff on the forum classifieds, I guess expecting to get a higher price than they bid from someone who absolutely MUST HAVE the piece. Doesn’t make any sense to me, but maybe they’re able to “flip” stuff for a profit? Might also be a money loser, if they can’t resell the piece at the price.
July 24, 2015 at 4:48 pm #932330I am not ignorant to the fact that some people bid things up on ebay…nor am i saying that people don’t try and win things to sell for a mark up BUT almost everyone will bid because they love it, they want it, and thats it. I was somewhat confused about the comment of wanting to win something for the purpose of trading it….that is risky, wouldnt you say? If you win, it means you were the one willing to spend the most on it, and therefore value the piece higher than anyone else who was bidding…or it simply escaped from affordable price ranges. Even the one who buys something to sell for a mark up, is equally risky. I agree with you mashubert
On another point….I dont think anyone should be keeping track of what other private collectors are buying….IMO, its personal, otherwise ebay would announce the winners. I would not expect anyone being talked about for buying up most of the cougars, to post their beautiful pieces here….I agree with you on that point absolutely jmoore.
At the end of the day, it is one thing to feel jealousy or envy, towards that collector who wins something you wanted….but its another to feel they are somehow not entitled to it just because they already have 5 or whatever the case may be. To be clear, I am NOT saying that anyone said this outright….i am simply reading into the posts. Further, we dont know if that ebayer is someone active here, or if they even have an account here, and it isnt fair to assume they are rich….they could have 3 jobs to support their love of Melody’s art….even if they were a part of the 1% who is wealthy, it isnt anybody’s business to talk about it. My comments are not to single anyone out, or be an attack on anyone….it’s just how i feel on the subject.
I think this thread got off track, and it should be happiness ( and a healthy amount of envy) that is felt for that collector, for fighting for something they really love, and winning the auctions.

And, with that, more cougars! 🙂
