Oh no. How did that happen? Was it bought from ebay or something where the seller didn’t pack it good?
Looking for rainbow or pink & teal grab bags!
July 22, 2014 at 12:08 am #915992It was from eBay 🙁 They did pack it pretty well I thought. It was with newspaper, though.
July 22, 2014 at 12:15 am #915993Ack, I’m sorry, that’s always a bummer.
July 22, 2014 at 4:43 am #916027Oh no. 🙁 I would follow Kim’s advice in this case. I mean, maybe it’s possible to do the repairs yourself, but you paid for a product that wasn’t broken, so I don’t think you should have to settle.
July 22, 2014 at 4:59 am #916031Oh, ouch. 🙁 That’s pretty bad. I’m really sorry that that happened; it seems like some sellers just don’t quite understand how something so heavy can also be fragile. I’ve had even experienced sellers with good feedback make that mistake.
FWIW, it is possible to resculpt the missing pieces, and some of the skilled repair artists on the Forum can make him look good as new. But I agree, the seller really miscalculated, and it would be honest for them to give you a partial refund. You paid for an intact Windstone, and got a broken one; it’s fair that the seller receive the worth of a broken Windstone out of this deal, but not the full price, seems to me.
Best of luck!
July 22, 2014 at 8:21 am #915994Oh dear. There are a few threads on here about pieces arriving broken from ebay unfortunately. Did you ask them about double boxing it? I have posted this before but I always ask a seller before I buy their piece if they are familiar with double boxing and if they have a good amount of bubble wrap and packing peanuts to pack the piece so it doesn’t chip or break. Have you messaged the seller or filed a claim? You can ask for a refund and send it back since they packed it in newspaper and it’s their fault it broke. Or sometimes people ask for partial refunds if you think you can keep the piece and fix it or send it away to be fixed.

July 22, 2014 at 11:04 pm #916114I could fix him for ya, or if you want to try it yourself I can guide you through it. Honestly, the stone texture pieces are the EASIEST to fix and perfect for beginners. I’m sorry he arrived broken, but he can definitely be fixed! PM me if you want, I won’t bite ^_^

with the store texture pieces, I use a terrycloth towel and lightly mush it into the wet apoxie sculpt to get the “stone-like” texture, works awesome.

Thank you! I spent a lot of last night carefully assembling and gluing about a million tiny pieces, lol 🙂
I was looking at your tutorial and could not find Apoxie Sculpt, but I did find some air-dry Fimo (basically Sculpey). I will send you a PM!
July 23, 2014 at 5:24 am #916141Just as a general update, this is the progress I made last night.
I was lucky with the right wing, which was almost in one large chunk. (Charlie wouldn’t move… He’s a brat, and I am an enabler)
It’s hard to see, but there are about ten pieces stuck carefully together here…
Another 5+? tiny pieces here in the ear.I could find no other intact pieces that made sense. The rest were basically all dust.
I may try my hand at sculpting the rest tomorrow.
July 23, 2014 at 7:13 am #916145I hope you can do it, good luck!! (Your cat is REALLY cute by the way.)

Excellent!
July 23, 2014 at 5:08 pm #916185Apoxie Sculpt is produced by Aves Studio (www.avesstudio.com) and they do on-line orders. I’m an amateur-level repairer but have gotten good results with the stuff. I like the Apoxie Clay best for duplicating the surface texture of Windstones, although I’ve also used Apoxie Sculpt. Both of these are two-part compounds. They’re pretty easy to work with; depending on your humidity level, you might want to mix it up and then leave it for 10-30 minutes to stiffen up before you work with it, so it’s less sticky. Where I live it’s very dry, so I can start with it right away. You pack it down into the cracks first, and let it set up partway, and then texture the surface. Apoxie Clay takes paint VERY Well (Sculpt wants a basecoat first). You can also do the repair in stages, because either Clay or Sculpt sticks well to a prior layer of Clay or Sculpt.
I haven’t used Fimo for repairs. So long as it doesn’t shrink when it dries, or discolor the existing paint, then it may work just fine.
Best of luck! 🙂
July 23, 2014 at 6:01 pm #916190PMed you back! I still strongly suggest the apoxie sculpt honestly. The biggest regrets I have of my very early repairs were that I rushed into them and used materials I had on hand vs. getting the right stuff for the job. Now I use apoxie sculpt for everything! LOVE IT! It’s a great investment too if you plan to do any sort of repairs in the future because it will last you years.
