I ordered my first PYO and yesterday bought paints & brushes! I’m excited and nervous both. I’ve never really painted (not as an adult), but I love coloring with pencils and everyone’s pics were making it too hard to resist trying my own. Was anyone else a total novice at painting before starting this?
May 12, 2007 at 3:54 pm #490922May 12, 2007 at 4:27 pm #574536I was a novice to painting 3D, and my 2D work isn’t any good either, in my opinion. I think there are several people who took a liking to painting over PYOs. You’ll do fine. 😉
May 12, 2007 at 6:11 pm #574537*raises hand* Me, and I’ve only done the one PYO. Just got the sculpt to paint for my partner in the PYO swap yesterday. Haven’t had a chance to get paint for it yet.
May 12, 2007 at 7:35 pm #574538I’ve only painted one. 🙂
May 12, 2007 at 7:38 pm #574539I’ve only done one so far too 😀
May 12, 2007 at 7:46 pm #574540If this makes any sense, yes and no. I’ve done oils and acrylics on canvas, murals, and folk art painting. But, before the pyos I had never painted anything but a reletively flat surface. So I’m kind of lost on these.
I just find it hard to get a good blending while filing in the cracks and trying to get into all those hard to reach places. I just hate the dragons lower belly and tail. They are so hard to paint. But, I also love the challenge. I just get really nervous painting these for other people. I’m agonising over my pyo swap. I’m really hoping the person likes it.
May 12, 2007 at 7:50 pm #574541I’m not sure I’ll ever work up the nerve to be in the swap. 😆
May 12, 2007 at 9:34 pm #574542In terms of 2D art, I’d say I had some very very minor experience in painting (I am a marker artist, and I don’t like painting to be honest), despite owning every type of paint you could possibly imagine @__@
I’m on my third PYO currently, so when I did my first one that was really my first experience in painting GOOD 3D sculptures (aka, something not sculpted by me in a lame required high school art class 😆 )May 12, 2007 at 11:49 pm #574543Yay, thanks! (still nervous, but already having fun)
Is there a new PYO swap going on?May 13, 2007 at 12:11 am #574544No, not yet. The second one still hasn’t ended! 😯
May 13, 2007 at 3:53 am #574545I’m still extremely jittery about painting my first two PYO’s. I ordered them months ago while I was still at university, but now I’m home and have the time, and I’m too nervous to start yet. I’ve been watching the galleries and forums for hints and tips, but I just end up feeling like I can’t do justice to them! I’ve painted a lot of ceramics, plaster pieces and even rocks for years now, but I somehow just don’t feel like I’ve had enough experience.
Bah, I’ll get over it eventually, and I suspect it won’t turn out nearly as bad as I keep dreading 😉
May 13, 2007 at 3:55 am #574546You gotta start somewhere, Arya. They’ll look just fine. And even if they would turn out looking crappy, you can always paint them black and they’ll still look good. But you’ll do fine.
May 13, 2007 at 6:13 am #574547I was already familier with painting before i got my first windstone >_>
but it is really fun and relaxing. I am sure you will be just fine at it. don’t hesitate to ask questions and you start.
May 13, 2007 at 3:35 pm #574548I’ve only painted one before too. I have to go buy paints for my PYO swap piece, so I’m going to start that this week.
