do you guys like the sterling on the beak and talons- do you think sterling on his rear would be too much shine? I can’t make up my mind!

He looks cool so far. The copper stripes are neat (copper makes me happy) 😀 Can’t wait to see it once you’re done!

I am hoping to have him done by tonight- but he is going to need a story or poem… so that can add to the time a bit.
I am still not sure what to do with his rear tho… I hope I come up with something soon!

ok- can you see the pic now? I can’t get the [img] function to work for some reason?
(never mind- got it… second pic is a bit blurry- but you can see the colors a bit better- it is hard to capture indoors)

Sorry guys- I’m not sure what happened- I will figure it out in a little bit- got get kids fed/changed etc first 🙂

It is no where near done- as you can see he is still got leafing sticking out all over etc- but it gives you an idea of the multi colored metal leaf (copper). His beak and talons are sterling silver- his bottom may end up being too- I’m not sure yet… he is so shiny.

What do you guys think the butt end of this guy should look like? Any color suggestions?

oh- you bid! ha- great 🙂

my auction ends for this in a couple hours-
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200122360580&rd=1&rd=1

oh, and I wanted to add if you would rather sterling silver leaf instead of the gold I can leaf over the 24k with the sterling. It would be extra work- but when I look at her I can see she would look good in silver too 🙂
    Thanks

THAT is neat. I am not sure I like the gold leaf on that color dragon, but I love that color dragon!

I know- the dragon was different before the wash- I may change it if no one bids today… it screams for silver leaf *sigh* but I may just change the color all together… and the freckles were put on one by one 🙂 took a while but I like the effect.
Also I need to take new pics- it was rianing yesterday and the colors aren’t showing correctly inside.

Ooooh! I reeaaallllly want to see that multi-color on the griffin when you get around to it!

Yes it is 24k gold leaf- all the gold. I plan on working on the griffin next 🙂 The multi color leaf is copper tho- not gold.

in reply to: Dragon #7- with gold leaf #591648

I have to take some pics outside- these don’t do her justice. The leaf is real 24K. She is an off while color with a pink wash. she also has freckles 🙂

I am a leafing freak now- I have sterling silver and 24k and a multi color- which is going on my next griffin… I am addicted to it!

dragons- but I just order two muses so we will see- they look freaking awesome- thank god for this thread- I didn’t even know they were out yet- I was like- OMG!… and my 3 year old is like “whats the matter mama- you ok?” haha
    I love windstones!

    in reply to: Antiquing? #590891

I was wondering- do you seal the piece first- every attempt at antiquing I have made takes off the paint too- I am not rubbing hard etc and even when I try wiping it off almost immediately- still takes off the paint. I got tired of having to repaint everything so I stopped trying- but I never tried on an already sealed piece.

Ah, Mipa, I can’t tell you how much I relate to your comments in the first post! As for the changes you need to make to the piece for the commissioner, hopefully you like the new direction you are heading in better? Anyways, I’m glad you are getting at least some benefit from the commission experience, even if it’s just learning you don’t really enjoy taking them on Windstones.

Yes I have an idea- I am just going to put him down for a day or two and regroup 🙄

Well I thank you all for the supporting words- it is funny how some feel the same and some have no problem!
The buyer would like me to change it:oops: – and I don’t blame them one bit. I know what I am going to do but I am taking a break for a couple days- I am not going to make anything on it- I lowered the price to $60 because I feel terrible for not being able to produce anywhere near the quality I normally do. I won’t show a pic here- sorry- but that’s how much I dislike it.
I have already spent hours on it *sigh* painted over parts I dd not like etc
Oh well- learning experience! I am just really bummed because I think I could have quite a few more commissions- but I just don’t like them- at least not on windstones!

in reply to: For those of you who do Commissions #590679

I was wondering if any of you who do commissions struggle with some of the same things I do- I just did a commission- and I hated the way it turned out. Not only that but it took me twice as long as a regular piece would and there was less detail on it.
I always enjoy painting- I can’t really explain it but I just love doing it- but this commission felt like WORK.

I am actually thinking about not doing any more commissions. I have painted things for people with great results- but they were always as gifts– so I didn’t feel pressure because the person wasn’t paying for the piece. With ebay I can just create as I go with no pressure- I list it for a really low price and only people who really like it bid- it is completely different. On my canvas paintings I almost never do commissions except for pet memorials- but for some reason I usually can get those pretty close- but I still feel a great deal of pressure to get it perfect. But even the few commissions I do on canvas- I only let the person give me a very vague idea of what they want- and they give me free reign to do what I please.

I don’t know- I am just so frustrated because now I have to show this dragon to the buyer and I don’t even like it. If it were something I was working on for ebay- I would have put it in my closet and walked away from it until some later time when I was less frustrated- and I probably would have repainted the entire thing. At this point I just want to cry- I have already emailed the buyer with pics etc and explained everything- I even lowered the price because I didn’t think it was worth what we originally agreed on.

I know many of you do primarily commissions- and I don’t know how you do it! I guess I just can’t paint under pressure- which makes me feel like I am not a true artist- because even when it feels like work I should be able to get the job done.
I guess I am just wondering if you guys feel this way. I am so disappointed in myself- part of me feels like I should try to repaint the whole thing again- but I just can’t bare to do it!
