With all the genetic tinkering going on these days, they’ll probably pin the gene down eventually….or else they’ll just clone one over and over and over again…
oh they already have it all mapped out….last I heard they weren’t going to register cremello’s and purlino’s because they were considered genetic junk….then they did start because the guy that was doing the colors kept getting death threats from horse owners wanting to register those colors….
another reason I’m happy I don’t work there anymore….most horse owners are just psychotic…

they are a very wanted color….but usually never get a pure palomino….we registered them as dun…or red dun….because of dorsal strips or other variations in the color….and people would be so mad because they wanted their papers to say palomino….and it just wasn’t going to happen

Ssthisto wrote:Greater Basilisk wrote:And why should there be no palomino unicorns? Just because them medieval naturalists didn’t know what the palomino color was because America wasn’t discovered yet… doesn’t mean there were no palomino unicorns! 😉
Palomino isn’t an American thing, precisely…. all horses in the New World originated from horses that were brought over from the Old World (Eurasia) – by the Spanish, though there’s the possibility that horses COULD have been brought over the Bering land strait too…
Granted, at least Arabian horse people seem to call genetic palomino “Chestnut” and deny the existence of the creme gene in Arabs…
But a golden palomino-coloured unicorn is certainly within the realms of plausibility… just as much as a blue-eyed white animal (which, incidentally, would be a double dose of the creme gene, Cremello – which you get if you cross two palominos together!)
actually depends on what color the parents and grandparents were…..
you can always end up with a red dun…or just another palomino…
cremello’s and purlino’s are not considered natural colors….they are considered birth defects….
at least in the quarterhorse world
they have that gonna get up and move kind of look to them…..
yeah….probably
My cookies will be on the way to Nirvana tomorrow too, they’re done just need to be put in a box….

Wha??? Aren’t you the High Supreme Master of test paints at the factory??
Well, yeah, that is mostly with an airbrush. That’s different. I’m not modest about my airbrushing skills. I am about half as good as the Windstone painters. That’s bragging.
It isn’t false modesty when I say I can’t hand paint.. I’ve tried! My hand just isn’t steady enough to do it well. I’ve watched our hand painters at Windstone paint the little eyeballs on the Cherubs,(remember those?) I knew how, but I simply couldn’t physically do it.
I tell ya.. when I see the beautiful pyos all you folks have done in the gallery, I just go “Agh! How did they DO that?!?”
I sent the first pyos to Nam and had her figure out how to do it!I wish I could airbrush….so far I can’t….I have one and all kinds of paints with it….but so far I get little blobs of paint….
I guess I should practice…but I’m sticking with brushes for now
