What about green? You have yet to do a set of dragons with green eyes.

Edit: Dangit. I read the fine print. Guess I can’t enter.

Damn. Really wanted to give it to my gryphon-nut boyfriend. 🙁

Oh, I’m sooo sorry you got hurt! Have you ever needed stitches or have they been thankfully small blood sacrifices so far? Oh, and do you ever take comissions?

Well, nothing has required stitches yet *knocks ferverently on wood!*. Pretty much the cuts I get heal quickly. I think it’s because the glass is so sharp, it makes a really clean cut. I mean, I’ve had nastier cuts off hacksaws.

Yes, I do take commissions! However, the only problem with glass commissions that I send to someone through the mail is size limitations. I do not feel comfortable trying to send something bigger than about a square foot through the mail. It really sucks to open a package and find the glass you were hoping for in a bunch of itty bitty pieces (I’ve ordered raw glass online before, and had this happen. Haven’t had this happen with one of my stained glass pieces, yet. *knocks on wood again*). Anything bigger I have to make a custom crate for out of plywood (I don’t like to charge for custom crating, anyways). For whatever reason, glass while in a sheet is much stronger than after it gets out in a piece of stained glass. They do not survive any sort of twisting or torquing well, which is why I have to make custom crates for big pieces. But smaller pieces I’ve had go through the mail with good success.

Unless that is of course, you want to commission a big piece, and pick it up. That is always fun, and I get to meet the people in person who are taking my glass home! 😀

awww, sorry to hear about your studio!! 🙁 I hope you (or anyone else!) didn’t get hurt at all, and I sorry to hear about the breaking of rare glass…I suppose when there’s an accident in a studio full of glass, there really is going to be quite an accident…0_o (do you cut yourself a lot doing stained glass???)

Well, when you play with untempered glass (That most stained glass is) it’s not a matter of if you get cut, but when you get cut. Cuts and knicks are pretty much part of the game when working with glass. Some of the glass shards are so sharp, you can brush up against them and cut yourself open and not even know it until you realize you are dripping blood everywhere (been there, done that). We call it giving blood-sacrifices to the ever-fickle glass gods. 😀 And unfortunately, I didn’t get away unscathed this time. Got several nasty cuts while removing some of the glass shards, and got several glass shards wedged in my skin (never fun to remove). While I’m upset over the loss of the rare glass, I’m really more concerned about the regular project glass that I am now devoid of. I’m now out that glass, and that is what was helping me fund my studio. I now can’t get any supplies until I sell some of this production stuff. 🙁

And yes, I make my own frames from a simple solder job like you can see in the pics, to zinc borders, to custom wood framing. It’s a lot of work.

in reply to: Stained glass for sale. #629878

Hi there folks. I know this isn’t supposed to be a sale forum for art. But after an accident today in my stained glass studio, I am out a very, very expensive and rare piece of glass, and needing funds to replace some of the other glass that I broke that I use in my projects. In other words, I need some help. So, here is the deal.

I made three eagle feathers today, as seen in the picture below:

I am asking $20 each. They are made of white spectrum waterglass, and brown spectrum granite glass, and are all approximately 10 and a half inches in length. These are *all* hand made, by me. I can solder on jump rings so you can hang them up, and I can also patina the silver finish to black upon request.

I also have a gryphon circle I finished today that I might be convinced to part with for the right price. It’s roughly 11 inches in diameter. (Don’t know the exact diameter)

I only have three of the feathers to sell so far. I *can* and *will* make more, and in custom colors upon request. For an extra $10 per feather, I will roll out some of the really good and expensive glass (Bullseye, Yougiogheney, Ouroborous… etc) I have hoarded in my collection.

Dunno if anyone will want these. But I figured what the heck. Christmas is coming. Some people like this kinda stuff to give as presentsd.

(just curious) why doesn’t this one have those pretty new eyes you’ve been experimenting with on Olympia’s pieces??

I can answer this one, kinda, because I was asking about those eyes for my special pieces. Melody told me that he way the dichroic glass reflects on the smaller eyes, because they are concave on the back, makes them look creepy- like dead fish eyes. They only work well on the really big eyes (i.e. Secret Keeper) because they are flatter on the back. Maybe they look okay on Oly’s green/gold oriental sun dragon because he has such vibrant colors. Maybe they looked too creepy on the monochromatic silver one?

Also, I’ve gotta agree with Arlla- the photos lately have been very dark of the auction pieces and store pieces. It’s gotten so it’s hard to really make the sculpture or color out accurately (Just my opinion!).

That’s funny. I do quite a bit of dichrioc glass fuzing as a part of my stained glass, and I’ve never had that kind of a problem. A good many of the pieces I make for earrings and whatnot are the same size of, if not smaller than a windstone eye. Maybe a different type needs to be used?

in reply to: Flower Is Gone / Kalahari Meerkat Project / Earthwatch #626393

I actually went on one of the Earthwatch expeditions. I won a scholarship through them, and they sent me to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to dig up obsidian tools as part of an archaeological study out of the University of Nebraska. I was a cool experience, but now that I’m writing my own theses and doing the fieldwork… kinda boggles my mind that people would pay that much to go into the field to do that stuff! I suppose it just depends what side of the academic fence you sit on.

Well, with my collection of hoofers, and my boyfriends collection of gryphons… something like this was bound to happen. It was just a matter of time…

in reply to: Half-trade, half cash? #626167

Well, I’ve pretty much figured out that I won’t see very much free cash at any one time. Or at least enough to be able to afford one of the limited edition old warriors.

The one windstone I really really REALLY (you get the idea here) want, the one I would sell a firstborn for, he one I would give both eyeteeth, an arm, and a leg for, is either one of the black emerald peacock old warriors, or one of the black violet old warriors. Either one, I don’t care which.

In exchange, I have a mint set of oriental dragons. I have a mint emerald (NOT jade) oriental, and a mint emerald sun dragon to trade, both with original boxes, both with tags. I know that one of those limited edition old warriors is worth more than those guys, but I can throw some cash on top of those guys to make it even.

I know that this shot was unlikely, but I thought it was worth it anyways.

EDIT: Dangit! I put this in the wrong forum! Can someone move this please? *hides somewhere in utter embarassment*

in reply to: PUT YOUR "WISH LIST" IN HERE #596428

The only one on my wishlist, that I would really, REALLY REALLY want.

Either a black emerald peacock old warrior
or a black violet old warrior

I know there’s no chance of getting them. But I would part with my emerald sun dragon and my emerald oriental dragon to get them since there’s no way I’ll have that kind of cash lying around.

They might have tried to polish or clean it once during their ownership, and in doing so, used the wrong cleanser and it reacted adversely with the finish and gold plating.

My guess is that if this is at all the case, you cant undo that and cleaning it more would just shot yourself in the foot. But, you can get info here and try a few things.

I have always had, the black young unicorn for many years. Now that I have the male which was kept in perfect condition, as well as a PYO unicorn I painted black so I didnt have to hunt and spend a lot for the actual black (I never got the baby but we’ll see; Im more impressed with the larger statues but who knows? There may be some unicorn lovin’ in the air which I cant stop)! Putting them next to my old young black, it was very evident his horn was in need of punching up. I polished it with a jewelry cleaner rub which worked well. But in the end, I went over it with more gold and it worked out well. Just an option

After reading this, I took a good hard look at the horn again. The pattern certainly does jive with someone using the wrong type of cleaner or chemical on it. I don’t think painting over it is an option – the texture on the horn is shot as a result of whatever was used on it. The horn isn’t smooth where it is damaged.

So… I guess the question becomes can I get a new horn, and how do I go about popping the old one out?

EDIT: One more question… what color black was used on the unicorns? I have a few scuffs on this guy that need a little touching up. Thanks!

in reply to: Unicorn Horns #621051

I just received a black male unicorn off ebay, but there is something off with his horn. I know gold can’t oxidize, but this unicorn horn looks like it has either oxidized, or the gold finish has worn off. It does not smell like smoke at all, so I’ve ruled out smoke/tar resin. It has a greenish-black cast to it, is somewhat rough to the touch and is not gold colored at all anymore – only at the tip and base of the horn is any of the original gold coloring left. Is there something I can use to clean the horn that would take all this gunk off? Or would it be best to try to pop the horn out, and request a new one?
