*wanders by with a dayglow pink old warrior…*

He looks good. Almost the same shade as a pink highlighter.

    *escapes~!*

When are we gonna see some rainbow old warriors?

Oh yes, of course. I suppose we need to, don’t we?

It’s on the priority list. Right after more black griffin chicks, and tan griffin chicks. (Or at least that was the order to do them in last time I checked…has it changed?)

that was something i was curious about… with the move coming up and all, if there were any loose plans for retiring any pieces, or a color scheme on the note of out with the old in with the new. that’s my paranoia kicking in- i don’t want miss out on any pieces i still need to get of things that have been out for a bit. 😳 i still need a bad cat candlelamp, a wolf sconce and a couple more pieces in black gold, in regards to things that have been out for a bit… 🙄
i guess the same applies for some of the limited production out of stocks in the store still- white risers and sitters, the browns, the griffins, etc. have slowly been selling out- which is good. but which may we see again and which are gone forever… not like you guys don’t have ENOUGH to do and worry about already! lol! i totally get that you may not want to keep putting stuff in there when i would guess you’d ideally move as little as possible up to oregon, plus, keeping all the painters busy with producing the new red fires, etc. for the physical stores, etc. etc….

Melody might have other plans (and if so, she’ll correct me… with the squirt bottle), but from my point of view, retiring anything, especially right now could seriously backfire. Like they’ve said before, they are trying to train new people (including me) to paint, cast, make molds, and do all the odds and ends of running the factory. Each piece – from casting to finish – has it’s own quirks and problems, and it helps us to learn about those quirks in our training – It’s experience pure and simple. So It’s in our benefit to know how to do everything that is currently being run, if only so we can apply that knowledge and experience in the future.

Limited production pieces and one-of-a-kinds of course are exemptions to this rule. Those may be discontinued at any time.

Uh… hold up here a minute.

That candlelamp is still on the active pieces list. It’s just probably one of the slower sellers, so we haven’t been casting much… like the leaf cat sconce. We haven’t retired it as far as I know. Unless Melody was thinking of retiring it.

I’m a little late on the draw, for this one.

Wanna see how truly boring, and mundane I am? Here’s my myspace account:

Just a warning. It is set to private because of stalker ex issues. But this is just in case you have a hankering to see just exactly how uninteresting I am. 😛

Purple? Aren’t those Shasta Blue too?
I love the OW – but please give him a different eye color.

Until I get authorization to use perfect blanks, eye color can’t be helped. Those were both seconds – a ruby old warrior with a lot of damage and the bad paint someone returned a while ago, and a silver lap dragon who’s other horn sheared off.

In other words, those guys won’t ever be sold because of the damage they have, but are more a way for me to move colors around without worrying about ruining a perfect piece. So if I get to do Shasta blue, rest assured they will not have red eyes.

(Ironically, the Ocean Old Warrior prototype has red eyes.)

I know all of that, Darkzorse! I know it’s all arbitrary! 😀 And I already knew about hyenas and vultures. Hyenas are to felines what wolves are to bears! 😛 This is why I never meant to be absolutely serious! 😉 Just a funny way to be “scientific” in something completely imaginary.

Actually, the basic point of the thread was to ask Melody about the Poad. And through this, I simply used griffins to bring the subject, because of similarities they apparently both shared. It was just some sort of a game. 😳 I just felt surprized to be replied relatively categorically that fantasy “classification” was due to “number of limbs at first”, and I felt like if I’ve been told that my way of having fun was “proven” completely wrong. 😥 See what I mean? 😕 No hard feelings…

Naw, no hard feelings there at all. I just go into ‘hardcore’ mode when talking about taxonomy because of the reams of taxonomy I had to read, edit, re-edit, and prosess as a part of my wildlife biology education. I had four classes dedicated to taxonomy *alone* and if I go for my master’s, I will be guaranteed more taxonomy. I’ve got odocoileus coming out of my hemionus from all the taxonomy!

in reply to: Poads: A Griffinidae? #663199

Wait… we are arguing about… fantasy creature taxonomic classification?

Isn’t that… arbitrary at best? Presuming you are using the traditional dichotomous branching classification?

I mean, I can cobble together an exemption to any rules you might set as far as distinguishing characteristics… that’s sort of the idea of fantasy animals.

And just one more thought… traditional classification is being challenged and re-arranged on a daily basis for creatures that *do* exist, mainly on the premise or existence of DNA similarities (Or dissimilarities). This is why hyenas are more closely related to mongooses than dogs, and why vultures are more closely related to ciconiformes (Storks) than true falconiformes (hawks and eagles).

If you were told you only had one month left to live?

Today I was told that a family friend is dying. They found eight tumors in her stomach, and were able to remove all but one. And the last one will kill her in less than a month. My Godfather is doing everything he can to help her her husband, and her daughter.

I can’t imagine what she is going through, much less her husband, or her daughter who is the same age I am. It really brings home a lot of things for me.

Yeah. It’s a royal pain in the butt to paint! 😛

Try painting something similar on a PYO. Talk about a pain in the neck!

I notice an awful lot of fussing over rainbow recently. You can’t MAKE people like rainbow. Period.

I’d also like to point out that it is far too time consuming to paint. And that it is a retired color.

I hate rainbow, and it would not matter if there were red noses or not.

Cane-work is actually using thin rails of zinc to separate each piece instead of copper foil and solder. The effect can be really well worth it, and it’s a reasonably common method, particularly in accent pieces in foyers and whatnot. But it doesn’t lend itself well to more of the sort of art I do, thus I don’t do cane-work often.

    *returns to obscurity*
