She looks fantastic! Very nice shading on her too.

Maybe get a little fine tipped brush to poke around the horn to touch up the little white sliver?

The problem with that is that she isn’t done in paints. I’m not sure I could add color there without messing up the face…And if I try to match some paint in there I don’t think it would blend…Anyone pastelers have any thoughts?

Thanks! I love her too, I shouldn’t sound so negative. It’s just frustrating sometimes when I mess up and don’t have the experience to fix it. I get worried about ruining stuff 😆 …

I think this will be the last unicorn I do, unless someone begs me. I can’t seem to get them to come out the way I want. No matter how careful I am, I always have stray marks from darker pastel, atleast one finger print and ‘ring around the horn’. *takes breath*

Ok, she is done all in pastels. I startd with a creamy color and built from there, mixing my pastels as I went. I did a layer of pearl ex gold all over her too, helps her depth I think tho she doesn’t look shiny at all. I kept going darker and darker careful not to go too orange or pink. When I liked her base color, I started to add the darker brown shading. Her dark parts probably have about 10-15 layers. Then, after I was almost done today, I thought she was dry and picked her up, Voila! Finger prints 🙄 I was able to cover some up by just adding a coat of gloss and then a coat of matte, but some are still visable. Added her copper ‘beads’ and set her infront of the AC. I was super careful with the masking, but still ended up with a little sliver of white at the base of the horn darnit!

So, anyway, I think I’m gonna keep her, unless ofcourse someone makes me an offer. For now tho, she will go join the carnivors on the shelf…

I recognize the paintjob, but can’t remember who painted it. It looks like a pastel piece and not many use that technique.

That grey wolf was one I sold to csm designs, sorry can’t remember that actual forum member’s name 😳 I also forgot to sign it. I hope this greyspiritwolf will keep it for her own collection and not try to copy it. I also hope she doesn’t try to sell it as one of hers. 😳

It is done in pastels….That darn tan came out so orange looking in the photos…

I did a couple new dragons. They are up on ebay. I haven’t uploaded any pics to photobucket yet, so I can’t post anything on here.

I did a green one w/ pearl ex powders and it came out beautiful if I do say do myself. And the other one I did in a dark brown/antique copper type color w/ interference violet oxide over the body scales and here and there. To top it off, I used copper pearl ex over the ridge scales….I love it too. It is by far my fav so far.

I did get a muse, but I’m still working on her…

If you guys want, I’ll post the ebay link, but I didn’t know if that would be tacky…

What I mean is does anyone actually remove any seams or bumps that don’t belong?? I just opened a dragon and it had a seam up the snout part that I filed off. I also noticed that it has stray bits of gypsum here and there stuck to it. Just curious…

Probably GB, unless I get an offer for her first.

Oh, I just love that griffin!! I’m just smitten with your painting style! You have a wonderful way of blending colors that look so perfect and subtle but really make the peice pop out!!

in reply to: Snap's Dragon #595319

Hey, did you notice those chest scales are a little worn looking?? 😆 Just kidding!!

I love the orange & copper/bronze!! Great job!

Here is my latest little guy. Sorry for the bad pictures, it’s night time here and my camera needs adjusting for white noise…..

3 coats of white paint, about a gazillion coats of grey pastels and I didnt count how many coats of white pastels….I need to clean up his face still, there was this problem with black paint, some acetone, eyes falling out, bla bla bla, and his face is smudged. So, I’ll probably do another coat of white paint over his face & kneck ruff down to his elbows, stopping at the elbow area. Eyes will get masked *again* and a few more coats of pastels will finish his off….
