No worries all, I am making my list now. Yes I do adore KiRin Kois…but I would like them in all colors of kois besides just red, orange, white, and black…and they don’t have to be koi either. Feel free to experiment with all colors.

Dang…oh well…I’ll have to do some pinks a little differently.

I want to make a written personal list of everyone who wants to do a trade with me. I do have a few trades on hand already but I’d love to have a KiRin from everyone I can from the forum who’s willing, so just let me know even if you already have me on your current Trade Swap thingie).

Of course this is over time, and if at the current time I PM you for the trade you don’t have a PYO or want to wait on it, I can skip you temporarily, etc etc. No worries. Also, right now it’s first come first serve so as you comment I’ll put you down on the list.

KiRins only is what I want, but you can get a dragon, KiRin, or Winged Wolf from me.

Lol, one published wanted to hire me on as their sole artist and was outraged I’d charge more than $500 per book because “all I have to do is draw it once and have the computer move the character and limbs around.” Needless to say I didn’t take THAT job, and boy was the woman angry…but let her try to hire someone else for $500 or less an entire book.

Plus people don’t often see art as a real job…or a job worth paying that kind of money for. They may want quality, but you seldom can have speed and quality and a low cost at the same time…something’s going to be lacking among those three issues if you do. But you don’t always get business from ignorant people, so that’s a good thing. But when you do get somebody like that…they make your life an utter living hell..and trust me, I know.

I just noticed Cheryl did a white wolf with pink wings already in the gallery called Valentine. Woah…freaky…we both had the same idea!

I have a story someone once told me…

A very wealthy man loved roosters very much. He decided he wanted to commission an artist to draw him his ideal, most perfect rooster. He went to an artist that maybe wasn’t very well known but nevertheless, a good artist, and said to him, “I would like you to paint for me a rooster.”

The artist replied, “I would love to paint for you a rooster, but I do not know how, as I have never done this bird before. But I don’t reject business, so let me practice a while and then come back to me.”

Time went on, many months, and the commissioner still wanted his rooster; and remembering the artist he returned to him. When he walked into the studio this time he was amazed at the glory of all the rooster sketches, paint swatches, photos, and all manner of feathers lying around the artist. He went up to the artist and said, “Your roosters are amazing! How could you say you didn’t paint them well? I must commission you, so please do so now and give me your price.”

The artist set to work and made his most perfect rooster painting ever in a matter of a little while, scarce under an hour. The commissioner was pleased and then the artist gave him the painting and the price.

“That’s perposterous!” the commissioner stormed. “I just saw you paint that rooster in under an hour. It is beautiful, don’t get me wrong, but I will not pay so much when it only took you just a little while to do.”

To this the artist replied, “But sir, I have worked for a long time on your rooster, as you can see by my studio filled with sketches and paintings. You are paying for my time of learning to draw your rooster to this level of perfection, not just for the time it took to draw one rooster.”

I have had such bad consignment deals I’d never do it again, especially not with Windstones. The last time I did consignment the store owners changed and all of the artwork was lost (either people bought it or the original owner took it) and I lost everything in that deal…plus consignment only yields you, the artist, maybe 50% of the sale, if that. Bogus. Anyway, there will be red, not sure about purples yet though, for this set.

Due to my current last straw with DA, and other factors, I am going to be posting my PYO paint jobs to my forum. Here’s the current link: http://www.watergazersden.com/node/32999#comment-404029

Bare with me…I’m am seeing if this works out. I changed settings so everyone should be able to see the images regardless if they are members of my forum or not.

This is the redo golden ruby dragon commission. This one I call the Ruby Sunset.

I once had to typeset and do the entire ready-to-print layout for a client not using Trafford and let me tell you THAT was a job, and worse was they only would pay me $50 for the entire thing…which at the time I thought would be ok but afterwards realized how much time I put in for it and all the tediousness that required. I was going to buy InDesign so I could convert my layouts for Trafford authors but realized then that Trafford would merely have to click “Print” and I wouldn’t get paid any more anyway so…yeah.

As for furry tails…if people don’t know the fursuitting business they will say it’s high priced but once they get into it and try getting prices for stuff, they soon realize it. They also become painfully aware of when they pay less than $500 for a full body fursuit the problems that cheap bad fur causes.

Wait, you WORK at Trafford?! I didn’t know that! Maybe you told me but I can’t remember. How awesome! All the layouts for books I have done for other authors are layouts I did with the exception of one, “Frieda and Friends.” All the rest I did. The worst one was for “Run, Rasputin Run” because I did an entire layout for that novel for only $15 a chapter…which later came out to me spending days upon days doing that layout with all the images inset and all. However, I design the layout but then Trafford has to follow that. So they sorta re-do the layout as I design it. Now I charge a flat rate of $200 per children’s book for layout which includes an electronic layout page-by-page and the hard-copy layout mock-up.

Wow, no I didn’t even know about that! Lol, it actually all came to me last night when I took a pain killer and was in this crazy state of mind…I just pictured pink and red Windstones and was like…oh man, I HAVE to do that…I don’t know why but I must! I plan to start the wolf tonight if I finish this dragon commission in time. It’s going slowly and it MUST be done by today. It’s the golden ruby redo one.

in reply to: The Valentines Collection #531792

I really dislike pink, so it’s odd I’m going to try it. I may even throw in some glitter paints too, and maybe utilize my glow in the dark paints here too, we’ll see!

in reply to: The Valentines Collection #531790

I had this really silly idea late last night I am just gonna have to do for giggles…I am going to paint up a wolf, dragon, and ki-rin in valentines colors and with a little extra embellishments. Be on the lookout for ’em soon! It’s positively rediculous but hey, why not?

    Psst Ski…there will be pinks!
Oh yeah, and if it’s really really REALLY liked for some bizarro reason, I guess I could maybe do a valentines griffin…but I really don’t dig painting the griffins as much as the others.

in reply to: ACEOs and Such #531599

I used to not keep really great records myself but over the past few months it’s become my new thing, and now I KNOW, painfully in some cases, how much I make and I think you really SHOULD know what you make. And I know about book layouts…don’t get me started!
