Thanks guys! I am anxious to get the PYO’s as well! I hope I can work out some trades and such with other collectors and artists out there who might like my paint jobs. I was telling someone earlier that I have been into painting horses for so long, my mind is set on “realism”, so getting my mind into that fantasy land where the color of a Ki-Rin for example is limited only by one’s imagination, may be a challenge at first.

I enjoyed painting the Hippogriff, but was kinda bummed about the texture of the sculpture. He has that “sculpture/rock” type texture that was kinda a buzzkill on the finished piece. Do the PYO’s have that kind of texture or are they smooth? In the photos I’ve been seeing they look real smooth but I’ve never seen one in person. I’m looking forward to playing around with the same blend of mixed media that I used on the hippogriff with the PYO’s.

Soooo…..be honest, what do you guys think about the concept of repainting the Windstone eye? Good…or…not so much? Wasn’t sure how that was going to go down with the Winstone collectors. The only reason I did though was just because the red didn’t look very nice I thought.

Do you think he is too metallic? I am into metallics as I like the glow and vibrance they give the piece, but I know in the model horse world a lot of people don’t like metallic undertones. Just curious as to how Windstone people feel about it.

Sweet. Thanks for the help. πŸ˜‰

in reply to: Question about Windstone Ordering #542210

Just a general question from a newbie here….forgive the ignorance.

Ok, *just* noticed that Windstone put up some PYO’s on ebay! Soooo, I bought 4!!

I sent an email to them asking if they combine ship but haven’t heard back yet. I can’t help it, I am just too anxious to pay and have them shipped here! Do they even combine ship? I didn’t notice anything in their ebay auction ad and if they don’t I’ll just go ahead and pay for each one without waiting to hear back.

Also, how long does it typically take after you pay Windstone to get your PYO’s (I’m in the USA)?

This newbie thanks you in advance for any help that you may give! This is the first time I’ve ordered anything directly from Windstone.

    Smiles πŸ˜€

I collect artist resins too (mostly keeling)- you do wonderful paint work!! Looking through your gallery you have done some BIG NAME models- congrats on that and welcome to the boards!!

Oh and thank you SO much for the very nice compliments on my stuff and the warm welcome to the boards! I really do appreciate it so much!

OMG Whippit I LUV that Elk custom!! He is too cool!!

The “remakes” are popular on eBay. Even if it’s just a fairly simply resculpted mane and tail collectors really seem to eat that up! I think you’ve got great skills, if you’re into painting them you should do it more! I can’t resculpt worth a crap!

And yes I am really into the artist resins. I am not a huge Arabian fan so the Keeling stuff does not always appeal to me. But I would love to have a traditional size Forever Ali in my collection one day! Now her sister, Debbie Lermond, I LUV some of her sculptures!

OMG I know, some of those resins are so crazy high. I unfortunatly have a taste for Sarah Rose sculptures and that can drain a bank account and max out a credit card SO quick. Of course I mostly buy unpainteds as investments to repaint and sell, but regardless it is still very expensive. Buying a PYO Windstone for $35 seems like a steal to me because I’m so used to shelling out hundreds of dollars for an unpainted resin.

Hey guys sorry to just get back to you! I ended up taking a nap this afternoon and just got up not very long ago.

Emerald got him (THANK YOU Emerald!) so he is sold.

I was asking $95.00 plus shipping for those who were interested in his price.

Thank you so much for the compliments. Critiques on him are very much welcome as it was my first windstone paint job. I’m waiting on the PYO’s to get here. A lady named Karen is supposed to send me an email with a grand total on my order. I ordered one of each of the PYO’s. πŸ˜€

Thanks for your compliments on the work, I really do appreciate it. πŸ™‚ Yep, I put the hippogriff up for sale in the sales forum. Hoping to find a buyer before I have to resort to FeeBay. I like the frolic foals but my favorite mold out right now is the new warmblood called Keltec Salinero. Mostly because of who sculpted him. It is from a german artist named Brigette Eberl and just luv her horse sculptures. πŸ˜‰

Hey bluepony…yep same here. I would like 40% of my income comes from painting customs and artist resins. The rest is a mix of flat work, various other commissions of an artistic nature (like logo designs and such) and murals. πŸ˜›

Yeah in my region there was a lady who used to enter her windstone unicorn and pegasus in the fantasy divisions and she would win it almost all the time. But I have not seen her in probably two years. She was the only one in my region who’d pop in a windstone now and then. One of the things that sort of frustrates me though is that even though the fantasy pieces can start NANing now, very few shows in my region offer workmanship divisions. I’m hoping that maybe next year they will start getting more common here. There are only like 2 or 3 shows a year that offer those classes from what I can remember.

Oh and yes Watergazer painting the breyers and resin is definantly in a whole other spectrum. I don’t know any artist that hand paints with acrylics. The ones that hand paint use oils or crushed pastels. Because so many people compete in live showing with the horses it is all pretty competitive IMO. And of course for so many artists it is actually how they make a living. People take it very, very seriously. Not a bad thing, just different. πŸ˜‰

I think if more model horse artists got into painting the windstones it would be awesome because of all the different talents and artistic renditions you’d see, but at the same time the prices on them would probably go up drastically just depending on who painted it.

Yes, I’ll hook ya up with my webshots album. I also have a website but it has not been updated since like 2005 and I’m terribly embarrassed of it.

I have one windstone in there, a hippogriff, which I need to sell or trade…or somethin’. Tired of lookin’ at him. I got him as a body from a model horse collector. I got him and 2 unicorns that she sold me as bodies and I had planned on repainting to sell later. But I read on here somewhere that Windstone doesn’t want that to happen so much, so I’d like to get these gone and then I won’t repaint the non PYO’s anymore. The unicorns I can actually probably keep and show in the Fantasy classes at model horse shows. I’ll probably just do that. But the Hippogriff since he’s holding a discus thing won’t work well in live showing.

But anyway, he’s my first repaint of a Windstone, so critiques welcome be it good or bad. πŸ˜‰

    ***SOLD***

I am interested in selling a Windstone Hippogriff candleholder that I painted. I painted this before I read here in the forum that Windstone discourages the painting/selling of the non PYO’s. I got the Hippogriff several months ago from a model horse customer of mine who traded me some Windstone ‘bodies’ for a custom of mine. From day one I had always planned on fixing them and repainting them for sale but I did not know that this was discouraged.

I need to get shed of this Hippogriff, and unless someone on the forum expresses interest I’ll put him on eBay tonight. I recieved him with no breaks but the previous owner told me she broke the glass candlelamp that came with him so that is of course not included.

I wanted an equine color so I went with Bay, and added metallic gold and copperish highlights within. My paintwork always has a metallic sheen to it, so if you don’t like metallics, you should stay far, far away from any creature I paint. πŸ™‚

I started him back in 2006 but finished him earlier this week. He was primed before painting. The paint job is in mixed media, but consists of: airbrush, golden brand acrylics, liquitex acrylics, crushed pastels, prismacolor pencils. The base coat was airbrushed and all detail work was then done by hand.

Sealed with multiple layers of Krylon Matte Finish. The eyes I repainted (this may be blasphemy in the Windstone world….sorry) because I did not like the red taxidermy type eyeballs he originally had. I didn’t think red eyeballs suited him.

He has gloss on the insides of his nostrils, his eyeballs and his hooves.

For photos, here is a link to the album:
    http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/557749626TEAESt

I’m not sure anyone here will want him, so I hesitate to go into many details about how much I want for him, payment methods, shipping, blah blah. If you’re seriously interested in him just send me a message and I’ll give you all that info. I do ship anywhere in the world, but he’s heavy so for international shipping it will be pretty expensive. Insurance will be madatory.

He does have the original windstone felt pad on the bottom of him and he also has the M. Pena 03 copyright mark on him as well. I signed him as “paint job by Jeanette Garey 2007” on the bottom.

He has been sitting on my “to finish” shelf for way too long and frankly I’m sick of lookin’ at him. I’ve since bought myself an original finish hippogriff with the candlelamp! πŸ˜€ If I can’t sell him, I may be interested in trading for PYO’s or something like that. I could kinda use the money more, but trade offers would also be considered. Right now, I prefer to not do time payments if at all possible.

*at this time, preference given to anyone who can do cash over trades, but if you can only trade email me anyway. If I get no cash takers by tonight I will be willing to trade at that time. I’d prefer to find a new home for him here rather than eBay just to save me the eBay fees*

Thanks for looking. (comments, critiques on the paint job are ok) This was my very first paint job on a Windstone. I have some blank PYO’s on order.

in reply to: Your Shipping Rates High? #541546

OMG those are crazy high rates for international shipping. I ship my resin horses through USPS and it typically costs around $35 with full insurance coverage, and some of those horses get up around $1000. I shipped a $550 one fully insured to the UK and they charged me $27.00.

The only thing that really bugs me about the USPS international is that they do not offer you a tracking number and nowadays with Paypal chargeback scammers I feel that is very important (if you’re like me and do a ton of business via Paypal and eBay). Paypal is really bad about siding with their buyers more than their sellers. Sellers are much less protected than buyers I think.

OMG that pony is somethin’ naaassstttyyy. (but in a good, artistic way) πŸ˜‰ Sometimes it takes a lot of talent to make something look so very bad, hehe.

I love the custom my little ponies, but the inability to rehair keeps me away from getting into it myself. One day I’d like to have some Harry Potter ponies made, like Gryffindor and Slytherin themed. πŸ˜€
