Well, my rant was long winded and probably hard to follow. (I’m just like that. 😆 )
Basically, the customer(s) “bought” three phones. They more than likely got them for free, since we are short the amount of that sale.
The customers returned the phones for cash. So, we were out the phones plus the “cash” from this so called sale. Now the customer has the cash that we were missing but, at least we have the phones back.
We don’t know if the cashier was friends with these customers. The funny thing is Mennonites wouldn’t have phones let alone cell phones. (Well, there are Mennonites that do have phones and cars so, I guess they could have cell phones as well. But, if they looked Mennonite then they probably were old order…. oh, who knows.) They are confusing that way. It’s cute, they’ll drive their buggies up to the stock yards (on a Thursday or Saturday) or to Conestoga Mall on the other days. Then take the bus. (I don’t blame them though, I wouldn’t want to drive a horse and buggy through a city either.)
But, they also wouldn’t have been shopping on a Sunday….. hum, the whole situation just doesn’t add up. That’s the whole problem.
I’m not sure but, I also think this cashier is from St. Jacobs, which is a Mennonite town….. Or it was, this was fought for years but, Walmart is going to build a store in St. Jacobs. I think they have to build outside the town but, still….. There goes the cute little town. 🙁
My rant on my Sunday and Monday….
Oh, not that they were bad days but, there is one really dumb thing that just made me want to scream. Some of you already know but, I’ll tell you guys that don’t know. I work in a cash office in a smallish large store. You know the kind, it was big back in it’s day but, nowhere near the size of superstores today.
I swear our cashiers get dumber everyday. Here is a story of stupidity.
Do any of you guys have a chip’n’pin card? Or know what they are? They are Visas, Master Cards and Debit Cards with a chip in it. These are such a headache! Since we have set up for these cards it has been non stop problems. Anyways, here is a story of three Mennonite looking guys who “bought” three cell phones.
I was balancing the electronic lane. They are almost $700 short cash. I look through EJ (electronic journal) and find a sale for the exact amount that they were short. So, I thought, oh this must be a sale that was supposed to be post-voided. He must have forgotten. I keep looking through and can’t find where he put this sale through again. So, I’m thinking “oh this isn’t good…..” I page the manager of the department but, she doesn’t return the call. I can’t get the cashiers phone# (I don’t have a list of phone #s anymore…). So, I can’t call the cashier.
Anyways, I leave the over/short report on the managers bin and run upstairs to use the bathroom. I come back down and I run into the assistant store manager. So, I told her about this short. We both head into the office and here is the department manager. She found the over/short report and asked me about it.
Apparently just before she headed into the office the customers wanted to return the phones. They have the receipt that says they paid cash for these phones. Well, there is no way the department has $700 for this return so they were sent up to the service desk. So, while they are getting the phones returned, Lynn the department manager calls the cashier.
He claims that it was a visa with a chip in it. He had a problem with the card being accepted. Sometimes when that happens the machine will go offline and the register has to be re-booted. He says he accidentally cashed out the sale, and that he re-rung the sale right after.
That could have happened but, there would have been proof. Plus the customer wouldn’t have the cash receipt. Everytime one of those cards is used a popup is produced. There was nothing.
Well, now we are short almost $700, the customers are almost $700 richer, but, we now have the phones back…………
So, loss prevention is looking into this matter. I have a feeling this cashier will either be looking for a new job soon, or will not be put on cash anymore.
Sorry for the rant, I just wanted to share some stupidity….
On the upside I saw my cousins Kristi and Karen, Karen’s boyfriend and my Uncle Gord and Lisa. That made it worthwhile I never see them anymore.
Well, I missed them just like I knew I would. No problem, I’ll save up for next time. (Hopefully when I’m not at work for once.)
No worries, like I said it’s alright. I do actually have other things to buy with that money. (Not fun things though. 😆 )

Well, thank you everyone….. I’ll try to get some chicks some other time. I can use the money for something I need instead of something that will gather dust.
I’ve seen that happen in real life too. It is amazing what animals can do in therapy. It makes me tear up to read about things like it too. I’m such a sap some days….
I want a dobe so bad…. The problem is I don’t like raising puppies. They are cute, but, I just don’t have the time, energy, or patience. The biggest problem with that is…. My mom is terrified of dobes….. I don’t know why either. So, for now I’ve put off getting one….. Even though I lost my heart to two of them at the humane society. They were both so sweet, problem is they were starving, and covered in dandruff….. I wonder what became of them. They both had warnings on the cards, I hope they were adopted…….
If they do go out in the store on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday…. I will be at work, so more than likely I’ll miss them. I was wondering if anyone could grab me at least a sitting chick.
I would like both chicks but, if I have to choose between the two, I do like the sitting more than the crouching.
I will pay asap. Or we can work out a trade.
