http://www.sarahjestin.com/feedbacklists.htmSeptember 3, 2009 at 2:32 am #781737π …I dunno what I can tell you about myself…but feel free to ask me anything and I will answer.. π
Well I work for a non for profit organization, I’ve been there for about 6 or so years and my job title has changed several times over the years but I think I finally settled on this one.. π
We provide supportive counselling for women and youth in durham region who have are survivors of sexual assault, currently I am the Community Development Coordinator, so I look after our 24 hour crisis line, our volunteers, donations, fundraising events and anything that has to do with our community. It keeps me really busy all year round and I really enjoy working there. Its a very small place, there is only 6 of us in the office and we cover all of Durham Region.
Over the years we had a some what of a bad repution but we have changed that and since I started in this position our number of clients per year have trippled which means I am doing my job…LOL.. πHmm…I would have to say I am a nature loving person for sure.. π and my hobbies… π include WINDSTONES… π I love painting them… π

September 5, 2009 at 4:01 am #781738Sounds like really rewarding work, mmloda π Sad that places like that even need to exist, but it is what it is and I’m glad you’ve turn it into a place women feel comfortable contacting.
And your PYOs are always fun π
September 5, 2009 at 1:37 pm #781739I have to agree, that’s very worthwhile work you are doing. 8)
Besides painting pyos, do you do other crafts/art? Do you collect anything besides Windstones?
September 6, 2009 at 5:26 am #781740Thank you… π I really do enjoy my job… π
I used to sketch but I haven’t done that for a long time now, that was years ago back in high school..LOL..now I only paint windstone PYO’s and other figurines… π I try to buy any figurine with glass eyes that may be a little bit damaged and fix it up and than re paint it, I’ve done that with some sandicast dogs, they actually turned out pretty nice but unfortunatly I do not have any of them, I’ve sold them… π
Other than Windstones I also collect Country Artist and Sandicast tigers and dobermans ( with uncropped ears), also any other realistic looking tigers that I find. I love Alan Hunts art so I collect his limited edition and Artist Proof prints of tigers… π Oh and I also have a large collection of disney store tigger mugs.. π Jessica Galbreth Fairys and OOAK Fairys( I only have one OOAK and I love her she has three dragons with her).
I rescently started collecting hand made pendants. But I have collected many other things in the past which are all packed up in boxes and I might actually be selling them because I am not enjoying them any more, I have alot of boyds bears and TY Beanie Babys…Marzena
September 10, 2009 at 6:52 pm #781741Your job sounds both satisfying and heartbreaking at the same time! Good that you could turn the place’s reputation around and start helping more people. What an accomplishment!
I always find it interesting that forum members also collect other fantasy pieces and animal figurines, prints etc. I also love the fact that you did not crop Maks ears–I think dobermans look so much softer that way and more natural. Have you ever considered taking up sketching again? Do you read and what peaks your interest?
September 10, 2009 at 7:18 pm #781742Thanks, my job can be heartbreaking at times….but my supervisor is really great and really big on self care….which is really important in an organization like that. I used to work with little kids ages 0 to 11 when I first started there and that was really hard espcrially in the begining but being an optomist is a great thing, at least for me it is and by the end of it all I was just really happy that I could help them.
Sometimes its really hard to mend a bad reputation and when I started this position I could not believe teh comments I would get from people and some of them were so angry…even tho we are much better off now and our numbers are up I still come across some people from the past that don’t really think too much of us but I know we’re all doin our best and helping those women who reach out to us and thats all that really counts… π
Hmm..I dunno about taking up the sketching again, maybe in the future… π for now I am really enjoying painting my PYO’s… π and as for reading, I am not much of a reader… π
Most of my time lately is spent with Maks…I love taking him out fro long walks and car rides…he loves being out and about so I really try to keep him happy and take him out alot after work… π that is if he’s feeling up for it, he’s been having some bad days and on those days, we usually end up at the vet and watch movies with him… πMarzena
