Mos def!
February 20, 2007 at 3:37 am #541545I always go with the USPS unless the buyer specifically requests UPS…I don’t think I’ve ever gotten horribly ripped off by UPS, but USPS just seems to generally be cheaper. And I’ve never had a problem with them.

-J R R TolkienFebruary 20, 2007 at 2:36 pm #541546OMG those are crazy high rates for international shipping. I ship my resin horses through USPS and it typically costs around $35 with full insurance coverage, and some of those horses get up around $1000. I shipped a $550 one fully insured to the UK and they charged me $27.00.
The only thing that really bugs me about the USPS international is that they do not offer you a tracking number and nowadays with Paypal chargeback scammers I feel that is very important (if you’re like me and do a ton of business via Paypal and eBay). Paypal is really bad about siding with their buyers more than their sellers. Sellers are much less protected than buyers I think.

Exactly! That is one reason I am so nervous about overseas shipping. I still offer it but I pray that no one ever decides to be a jerk!

My art: featherdust.comFebruary 20, 2007 at 7:11 pm #541548Yeah, if USPS had tracking, then it would be completely ideal. Though if you’re fussed about scammers, there is at least delivery confirmation. Even if you don’t get to track it, you’ll know if it actually arrived.
February 21, 2007 at 4:27 am #541549I always ship from the post office or the UPS hub right near work. At the other smaller places like Longs Drugs etc. you will pay for the “convenience” as they call it. If I buy stamps at the little store here at work I have the same problem. I returned the one and only book I bought here and wil never buy them here again unless it’s an emergency. I think it wsa like 80 cents more for the book of 20 stamps

Would Canada be considered USPS international? Logically I imagine it should, but I always ask for USPS airmail parcel post when I buy something from the US and have it shipped to my place (Montreal, Canada) and I always get a tracking number…

Yea, that’s the same thing I use, though it has bitten me in the behind more then once.

I put delivery confirmation on all my domestic packages, but have been repeatedly told that I can’t on anything that goes overseas (“Once it leaves the country we can’t be responsible anymore/have no way to track it” I’ve been told). Have you had a different experience? 🙂

My art: featherdust.comFebruary 21, 2007 at 4:22 pm #541553I was told by the post office that Global Priority was the only trackable international method. Canada is considered international…it’s a different country than the U.S., so it would be. There’s a number that comes with the other methods like Airmail, but it doesn’t get updated on the web site, and you can’t actually track with it.
Same thing goes for the number on the insurance for domestic shipping. It doesn’t actually track. It’s only for filing a claim. You have to buy delivery confirmation to get tracking for domestic shipping.
I’ve been doing this for a while on Ebay and know all the people at the post office by name, so if you want to know something I can always ask next time I go in (2-3 times a week) if I don’t know it.
I can’t tell you anything about UPS or any other shipping method though.
