There is an adult vaccine. You should check with your doctor to see if it’s called for. It’s possible you are actually immune – you can have the antibodies from exposure to chicken pox without having had symptoms – but if you are not immune it would be prudent to get the vaccination.

When I was pregnant with my now 2.5-year-old son I mentioned it and they supposedly did a test on my blood and did not find any antibodies. I’ve been meaning to call about the adult vaccine for a while now, but I have a bad problems with round-to-its. 😆 Last Friday got my eyes checked and will be going this Friday to get my teeth cleaned, both for the first time in 4 years.

Well interestingly enough, my 6 year old who has had both shots for chicken pox also has symptoms. Apparently the vax isn’t as effective as the medical folks thought.

My daughter had the vaccine as a baby. Then for a surprise 7th birthday present last year, she got the chicken pox! It was mild though. No vaccine is 100% effective, and that one has a lower success rate than some.
Shingles isn’t what happens when an adult is exposed to chicken pox. That would be a super-hellacious bout of flulike pox. The herpesvirus that causes chicken pox remains latent in the system of the people who have had it, to reactivate in later life along the nerves. That’s shingles- so it affects people who’ve already had chicken pox, not the never exposed.
