So I got my very first PYO Phoenix in yesterday and after about 16 hours of work (not all at once!), I’m pretty sure I’m finished.
I had debated doing antiquing on him but I think it would be a bad idea since his feathers already have a fair amount of detail. I wanted this one to be traditional phoenix colors – red, yellow, orange, and to remind one of a burning fire. Since I knew he was going to be the traditional mythical coloring, I wanted his rock to be celestial and magical, so I painted it like a night sky and put a light coating of blue interference over it. Each of his feathers was individually painted, and they each have a stroke of gold interference on the tips right across the yellowest portion. It’s hard to see in photos, but you can catch it in the light in some of the pictures. I also added a filigree design to his tail. I started out thinking I would do flames, but I can’t deny the love of the swirls, so it ended up filigree instead 🙂
I’m pretty happy with him, and am currently in negotiations with my mother to get my hands on the one she bought 😀
