Okay, I’ve got a bit of a dilemma here 😕 I’ve been offered a job, but it’s not really in my field. At the moment, I don’t have a contract lined up and am going to be updating my resume and writing cover letters (gad I hate those things) and sending them out to Theatre companies againin the coming weeks. I’m also going to be sending them out to the event companies here as well and was hoping to maybe find so part time work with them.
Now I’ve been offered this other job. It’s part time, steady reliable work and I actually did this for a few years before I went back to school. Here’s the thing. I never really enjoyed the other job. Mostly it was the morons I worked with, but this is the same job at a different place, so new people might not be as awful. To take this job, I would also have to got get a police clearance and renew my Alberta Gaming licence and the job is halfway across the city. I’m hoping to find out more tomorrow (wages, etc.)
I’m a bit kerfluffled about what to do. 😕 While I kinda like the idea of a regular paycheck, it’s not what I went to school for. I’m worried that I might get sucked into the place and loose what I wanted.
Help Please?
August 1, 2007 at 7:42 am #604861Hmmmm… CherylKaufman would probably be a good person to get advice from on this topic. I would say to do what you like to do. You can also always take the other job, and if the people are morons and you dont enjoy it, then quit. Dont do anything that you know you wont like. You will just end up miserable. Perhaps you can find something you can tolerate for a short while till you find what you want to do? Sorry.. I am lousy at work advice. I have had the same job since I was 17 (Im almost 31) and we cant quit or get fired or anything like that. 😕 Good luck to you!
August 1, 2007 at 12:17 pm #604862What does a gaming license clear you to do? The first thing I thought of was hunting and conservation, but that would be a Game license, right?
August 1, 2007 at 12:23 pm #604863I would take the job and try it, but still send out the cover letters. Who know, by the time you get your clearance, something might open up!
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

Basically its a licence that states I can work in a gambling establishment. In this case, a bingo hall 😀

That is a good idea. It would still cover your basis and if you do get offered a better job, then you can still give the other one 2 weeks or somthing like that.

Ah. Don’t you get tips at those places, too? So you could earn above the regular paycheck?
I suppose I shouldn’t give my two cents’ worth. Aside from disliking regular 9-to-5 office jobs, I’ll be happy doing whatever brings in the biggest paycheck. 😛August 1, 2007 at 11:24 pm #604867you do NOT want to be stuck somewhere you are not HAPPY, trust me i’m speaking form my current experience. I would try the new/old job abd see how it pans out and at least get paid while you look elsewhere. Maybe the new people would be GREAT
