Is the lady running a “rescue”? Can you talk to her and ask to adopt the dog? Let her know you didn’t know about the contract with the previous guy and you want to do the right thing, but the dog is happy and getting healthy and would really like to keep the dog.
Catch more bees with honey 😉Well that’s what she calls it anyhow. But 300 on one property? Anyhow, she said I could give the dog back (they’re like 3 hours away) then I could fill out an application and pay an adoption fee and MAYBE adopt the dog. Sorry but Heck fricking no! After I’ve paid everything for this dog I’m not giving her to someone I’ve never met on the basis of a contract I’ve never seen even to go live in a cage 🙁 I’m sure after all the yelling she did that she wouldn’t allow me to readopt the dog anyhow and I’m definitely not paying her for it (she already got paid once over a year ago from the first guy and the dog wasn’t even spayed or had shots at that point)
I think we’re beyond bees and honey at this point after she got very verbal and I hung up 🙁 I guess we’ll have to see about the court thing
April 30, 2008 at 5:06 pm #694284Sounds like the police or Animal Control should be checking her her 😯 Can you file a complaint against her to make that happen?

Hmm would I call the non emergency number for her police department in her town or..? She has a website showing many of the animals so she’s not hiding anything or anything but it’s a lot of dogs and puppies and litters of puppies. Lots of horses but from the pics of them the horses are all well fed and green pastures.
April 30, 2008 at 7:23 pm #694286Does she have any kind of license or certificate on her website to show that she’s legit? What about her reputation ? It just seems strange that she would make such a big deal about getting the dog back. It would be one thing if the dog were not cared for but c’mon!
I’m also wondering why she would let any animal go without a spay or neuter in the contract. All the animal rescue places I know of do. It probably wouldn’t hurt to see if you could have her checked out “Just in case”Thu eggz they need yor clikz

There’s no mention of any license or 501c3 that I see on her site- and if she was you’d think she’d want it big and bold and easily found like on the home page.
I’m wondering that too- and I called her on it when we were on the phone and she said she wasn’t old enough. Well- many many rescues and humane societies spay before 8 weeks of age even- they only have to be 2 pounds. I could understand maybe if she was a teeny chihuahua or something but this is a medium/large breed dog so she was surely much more than 2 pounds by 8 weeks of age when she first left her home.
April 30, 2008 at 7:53 pm #694288Several places also have you sign an agreement before you leave to get the animal S or N and they do follow up with your Vet. Sounds like she may ending up getting more than she bargained for creating all this fuss.

Yes, they can do a spay neuter contract but if she’s adopting out mass volumes of animals she really should just have them fixed first. Seems odd to charge someone $125 for a dog that’s not even fixed or shots- that’s breeding/selling to me not rescuing.
April 30, 2008 at 10:05 pm #694290For one thing, isn’t there a statute of limitations on how long one has to pursue a lawsuit? Something that should specify how long she has before she has to waive her rights to the lawsuit?
I can understand her wanting to sue the original person who got the dog; if she has a signed contract from him that states the dog should be offered back to her if he no longer wanted it, then yeah. He violated his side of the agreement by not honoring the right to first refusal. But as far as I can see, *you* shouldn’t be persecuted for bringing the poor dog home. And with all the dogs she already has, the words “Puppy Mill” come to my mind. She should be more concerned about the dog having a good home, and that doesn’t come to my mind if she’s making remarks about paying fees and “maybe” getting the same dog. Grrrrr!
