😮 I am in LOVE with Sand!
He is lovely, but I am not sure I like the whole wing being just one color. 😕 On the other hand, I know I love those Okapi Unicorns. I always liked the black unicorns, but I think the brown on these Okapis is even prettier. 😀 And the cat with the feather in his mouth is cute too.
February 13, 2011 at 5:18 pm #837244With exception to the fact that I’m not sure how I feel about his inner wing, I LOVE THAT SAND DRAGON AHHHHH

My art: featherdust.comFebruary 13, 2011 at 5:24 pm #837245same thing here….i wish that inner wing were mostly a pearl color…with maybe just the lower fringe of it being the blue…otherwise he’s gorgeous! 😀
February 13, 2011 at 6:53 pm #837246I go back and forth on the Sand dragon. While I really like his blue eyes against his browns and cream, and I can definitely see how the blue on his wing and accent scales ties in with the eyes, I don’t know . . . maybe it’s because the blue is a little too “shallow” in appearance? Too reflective–I keep thinking that it looks icy rather than like water running across sand. I know I run into that problem with metallics on PYOs, and usually I get around it by glazing over the metallic with a similar, darker color. But that’s a matter of personal preference.
I like the combination of brown base and blue accents a lot. And the brown body and cream belly combination is marvellous! 😀 Yum!
Regarding the “Ticked Pink OW”: I think “ticking” refers to flecks of strong color in an animal’s coat, usually at the end of the guard hairs. And wow, aren’t those eyes gorgeous! What a great combination they make with his color scheme!

I can’t get over how much I love this dragon. I honestly love every part about him, I even love the blue on his wings! I wish I had a bunch of money right now 😥

I’m not usually a big fan of the male dragon sculpt, but he is just stunning in those browns and blues.

I havent seen a flap cat in a while, I wonder when there will be more? There is a new batch that was just cast. They will be dry soon.

What a great combination they make with his color scheme! It totally amazes me how the dichroic eyes will perfectly match almost any dragon color in which they are set. These eyes turned pink as if by magic! They must somehow reflect the dragon’s body color, though I can’t figure it out.

The “Palomino” is a version of the “sand” color, but with interference blue trim instead of pearl blue. It gets confusing.

No. They have nothing with which to smite with.

Maybe fart in their general direction? 😆 Poad farts smell lovely.
February 13, 2011 at 8:19 pm #837254I’ll paint more “sand ” dragons and experiment with the blue/ inner wing color. I was not totally satified with it .. Pearl is a weird paint to work with, it doesn’t really “go” with other colors well, so I usually try to use it in sharply defined areas so the contrast is easier to take.
February 13, 2011 at 8:58 pm #837255I also like the ‘sand’ dragon. I find I’m leaning more towards the tans and greens. Just casting my vote! 🙂
February 13, 2011 at 10:11 pm #837256Well…..after comparing the two…I think I prefer the “Palomino” version of this color. But…it’s hard to say how well it would carry over to a large piece, and whether the wing markings (labor wise) would work for a limited production piece…..wing stencil maybe? We used small repositionable stencils for airbrushing clouds on cakes, and I’m thinking a similar method would work well for that general of a wing pattern. In any case…browns and blues together are my favorite color combo, and I’d love to see more of this color, even if it is in experimental variations. 🙂
