Hoping that everybody on the East Coast has been safe and will be safe as Sandy travels up the coast.
October 29, 2012 at 5:55 pm #888077The HMS Bounty tall ship sank this mourning do to the storm. The captain and a crew member are still missing. The likely hood that the rescue will turn into a retrieval mission is grim…
October 29, 2012 at 7:28 pm #888080It’s pouring and really windy here…

That is so weird, bright sunshine and a few clouds right now in Montreal…
October 29, 2012 at 9:13 pm #888084I’m in Chicago, and even here Sandy is supposed to have an impact by creating up to 30 foot waves tonight and tomorrow in Lake Michigan. The footage and images I’ve seen online are terrifying. I wish all you east coasters the best and be safe!
October 29, 2012 at 9:21 pm #888085It’s getting pretty bad where I live (in New Jersey). There are countless towns that are flooded and without power. Although I am keeping a positive attitude, but it is a little scary to see how much damage this hurricane is doing to neighboring towns on the weather channel. They say that our county will see the worst of the storm in less than an hour (and out lights are already flickering). So… I’m hoping that we somehow dodge any major damage. I remember last year during a massive storm in October, we had a lot of flooding and our power was out for 7 days (while the temperature was below freezing!). So I’m going to keep my fingers crossed tightly that it doesn’t happen again! Once was enough! Haha…
I send all my love, thoughts, and prayers to everyone that is also facing Hurricane Sandy!
October 29, 2012 at 11:23 pm #888087I hope you guys out east all stay safe and sound. Just watching it on the news makes the hair on the back of my neck wanna stand up. Be careful out there!
October 30, 2012 at 12:09 am #888089Stay safe everyone. I hope that all the bad weather ends soon. Our family got hit in Ontario with really bad flooding and highways were totally washed away at Wawa.
October 30, 2012 at 12:17 am #888090I hope you guys all get through this safe and sound…. 🙁
October 30, 2012 at 12:30 am #888091*sigh* Virtually all of my and the neighboring towns are out of power. They said that it should be about 7-10 days before they attempt to bring it back. And I keep hearing sirens go off.
(I wish I knew what was going on…) 🙁 I hope everyone is okay…October 30, 2012 at 12:53 am #888093I hope everyone is OK. We’re getting a lot of wind and rain right now, but hopefully we’re far enough inland to be OK. City of Toronto has something like 80 hydro crews on standy. So, fingers, toes, etc. all crossed that we all come through in one piece. Hang in there!
Life is beautiful.
October 30, 2012 at 1:34 am #888094Hang in there everyone who is in danger of Sandy. It looks absolutely terrifying! It makes me grateful that I live in southern Australia where we don’t get hurricanes/cyclones. Stay safe guys.
October 30, 2012 at 2:27 am #888099I’m just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Right now it’s thundering, lightning, and…SNOWING!? Schools are already closed for tomorrow and we’ve been warned to make sure we have enough water and food in our homes for at least three days. Walmart was a madhouse this afternoon!
It’s been warned that we may lose power too for a while, so I hope Susie doesn’t put anything cool in the store this week! I’m going to wrap up a few of my more beloved Windstones and other breakables, just in case, and make sure I have lots of candles and board games handy.Stay safe and warm!! <3
October 30, 2012 at 2:32 am #888096There is 3 feet of water around the NY Stock Exchange and 4 feet at 4 New York Plaza (where the NY Daily News is located). It’s 6 feet of water outside of the Plaza and water is up into Battery Park. The power has been cut by ConEdison to lower Manhattan (because the power lines are under water). They have already had water rescues and a good bit of flooding down on the Lower East Side. I have also seen images of a small shark in a flooded yard in NJ. Lots of people I know have lost power. High tide was before 9pm and low tide is around 6am, so that should help. Subway tunnels around the East River are flooded and the Hoboken platform for the PATH trains (under the Hudson) are flooded as well. Pretty bad down there. Stay safe! It’s also a full moon, so the tides are higher.
I’m up north of Albany (half way between NYC and Montreal) and honestly, it’s pretty uneventful. I’m also in a sheltered valley. I just went and took my dog out for a walk a little while ago and while it was windy, it wasn’t OMG windy like I’ve seen during some thunderstorms. The rain is really not much more than drizzle. Definitely some good gusts, but nothing more than 45 mph. I just put the we garbage out and school is still on for tomorrow as it stands now for tomorrow (the school is a few blocks from my house). Irene last year wasn’t much for us either, but the winds were stronger for us then than this storm (at my house that is). Just comes down to geography for me.
I’m concerned also about the Catskills area and the Binghamton area, as those places were hit hard with Irene with runoff, but it looks like the water aspect has moved out of those areas fairly quickly, so hopefully they will get a break this time. Some of those areas have not recovered or fully repaired from Irene. 🙁
I know there are issues in other areas and I do hope everyone in other areas stay safe.
October 30, 2012 at 11:50 am #888103Oh guys,I sooo feel for you.The hurricane isn’t your biggest worry,it is the afterwards. You guys get a snowstorm to follow it up,double whammy. No heat,no electricity,no running water, just to name three. We understand down here and sypathise.Help is on it’s way though. At least when ours hit we can go swimming to cool off, harder to get warm with no electricity.Hardest part, children.Keep them warm and everyone try to stay safe and warm.We wish you all to be safe and hope everyone fares well.We are here,we are watching and with you in Spirit.
