The painted bird legs are interesting, though I would feel more comfortable if there were pictures of already painted PYOs for examples….

-J R R TolkienJanuary 12, 2007 at 12:24 am #527747Yeah, I like the dragon arms. I just wish I could see more of her artwork.
January 12, 2007 at 1:08 am #527748Looks like this is their website:
http://www.thecopperdragon.com/The painted chicken/turkey feet is a creative idea- waste not, I say! I wonder if she’s painted on a PYO before? All of us that have tried it know that it’s not quite like painting on any other medium. 🙂

My art: featherdust.comJanuary 12, 2007 at 2:29 am #527749Oh talented, I love her quill pens, they are just beautiful. I would like to see a painted PYO from her before I bid though. That and I can’t think of anything that I want done.
January 12, 2007 at 2:38 am #527750hmm for some reason painted dead bird feet are kind of freaky to me….
although they are pretty….it just reminds me of some voodoo pieces..
January 12, 2007 at 4:47 am #527751Those quills are awesome! I love the Lady of the Mists and the Winter Tree. And I think the idea of ornamenting books is really neat.
January 12, 2007 at 8:22 am #527752I thought the feet were kinda freaky, too! I just dont like waiting for my peices and if they have 4 out at one time, the wait is gonna be ridiculous. Well, that is, if they take their time on it. Maybe they are speedy!
January 12, 2007 at 8:56 am #527753The feet are freaky, and kind of gross IMO, and isnt that one painted in peacock coloring infringment since the color combo is trademarked, and they outright call it peacock and admit to knowing of Melody’s work?
January 12, 2007 at 2:54 pm #527754I feel bad for her if she hasn’t painted one yet and thus has no sample of work to show, or the sculpt itself…because that really helps. But I do understand about building up sample paint jobs and getting started…but yeah those turkey feet and wierd but kinda cool. This is why Melody needs to release that sculpture bird muse thing people can sample paints on.
January 12, 2007 at 5:15 pm #527755I kind of like the “dragon feet”. I kind of thought that the peacock was a copy of Melody’s dragons. I do like the masks, and the pens. I don’t think I would pay $50 for a pen tho. Are those birds really rare?

Hyacinth macaws are in danger of becoming extinct in the wild, but feathers molted naturally from pet hyacinth macaws are okay to have. They are rare though, I’ve only met two of them in my life, and it’s true that they can sell in the $10,000 – $20,000 range. Not many people have them so it’s hard to get the feathers. If you consider this:
Scarlet macaws are FAR more common than hyacinths, so imagine what the same feathers from a hyacinth macaw sell for!

That is about $12 a feather for that auction. I guess if you paid that much for a bird and then sold the feathers then you would make some of your money back. How long does it take for a bird to shed it’s feathers?January 12, 2007 at 8:03 pm #527759dragonessjade wrote:That is about $12 a feather for that auction. Not necessarily… some feathers are in higher demand (from craftspersons) due to their color than others. I’ve seen feathers go for far, far less.
Most parrots in captivity will molt their feathers 1-2 times per year, but don’t molt them all at once… they go in stages. And most of the time the feather is ruined somehow (bird chews it after it falls out/bird soils it after it falls to the bottom of the cage/etc) so it’s not guaranteed that your bird will molt a perfect feather! My parrot takes her feathers that she molts and uses them to scratch her head, so I rarely get them. 😆
