My Windstones have basically taken over my living room 😀 . Most are on bookshelves. I do have a medium sized glass curio that I keep most of my PYOs and signed items. It’s not a lot. I’d love to have all of my Windstones behind glass, but I’m so paranoid that I’ll put to much weight on the glass it will cause it to break and all of my pretties will come crashing down 😮 ! Does anyone have formula for what glass thickness will work for certain items and weight? I’m actually musing with the idea of assembling my own curio 😳 .

So keep an eye out at your local thrift shops if you don’t mind second hand. Might need a little TLC but hardwood refinishes nicely 🙂
I definitely don’t mind used… but unfortunately it is my curse to end up living in places with absolutely useless, if not nonexistent, thrift stores. Hopefully I can break the curse before Windstone-case-owning becomes a real possibility, but just in case (heh), I don’t want to count on it too much. I also have horrible luck with yard sales, much to my sorrow.
Interested in buying or trading for: GB Pebble Sitting Red Fox in dark grey, Lap Dragon Test Paints (Water Sprite, Glacial Pearl, Opulence, Pastel Rainbow, and many others - see my Classifieds ad), Blue Morpho OW, GB Pebble Loaf dragons in blue/aqua/teal, and Griffin Test Paints (Black Rainbow or Frosted Jade).
November 5, 2009 at 1:24 am #789760Wow, drgnlvr, you must live in a Woodworker Hobo Town! 🙂 Where’d you find all those out-of-work cabinetmakers??
(You know, I was just reading an article yesterday about how people are saving vast amounts of money on home renovations by having put them off till now, when the economy’s tanked… too bad “now” isn’t a feasible time to be buying cases; I bet I could find lots of out-of-work or willing-to-reduce-prices builders…)
drgnlvr wrote:When I ran out out of room, I hired an out-of-work cabinet maker to build another one on top of the first one so it is now one large case also with lights, mirrors, and a lock, and glass shelves 3/4″ thick. That gave me a total of 4 shelves, because I took the shelves out of the bottom one to put the SK’s in because it holds the weight being wooden. This cabinet looks really good and is bolted to the wall for stability. I moved the smaller one across from the big one.The new handbuilt one cost about 1500. Then I ran out of room again, so I hired another out-of-work cabinet maker to build me another one under the small one. It cost about 1000. So then I had one really big one, a small one, and a medium one. !

I wish I had gotten 3 since matching these I fear is going to be impossibel and I need a 3rd case and one day maybe a 4thNovember 6, 2009 at 3:07 pm #789762Too bad you’re not in MN. There’s a local jewelry store closing shop. They have several glass display cases for $25 apiece. Nothing super fancy, but they look nice and are in good shape. Glass all the way around with glass shelves and a plain wood top and bottom.

You must live in my back yard! XD I’m about 30 minutes from Rock Island – Quad Cities. The best place I have found if you want choices in curios is the larger Salvation Army stores…But they are so frigging high priced! I’d be more apt to go to Goodwill. That is where I take my donations to, Goodwill. 😀 Although I have been known to donate carloads of stuff to women’s shelters too. 😀 I like to spread the wealth when it comes to that stuff. Kids grow so darned fast that the clothes are usually like new! Plus Glen is getting picky in his “old age” (Yeah right…15 in a week! Geez I hate that when he turned to a teen, that I began to feel really old for my age. 😛 )so I end up with alot of Christmas things he won’t wear from aunts and uncles who seem think his taste runs in pocket protectors and such… 😕 Sweater vests…The list goes on.
