I want to use a white base on my PYO with lots of white showing on the final product.

Do you guys put white acryllic on when you have white showing? Or just leave the gypsum blank and clear coat it?

I use a base coat so the paint is even.

Do you think a white spray on primer would work? Trying to paint a white statue white seems like I will miss a lot of places with a brush!

The white of acrylic paint and the white of the gypsum are different. The feel too; the plaster is smoother than the paint. Some tiny, tiny spots might be missed (unlike with black), but they won’t show.

I like to base coat no matter what. If nothing else it makes to absorption rate of the paint job more even than it is on bare gypsum. And dragonmedley is right. The gypsum is a different color than the paint. It looks off white when compared to white paint.

Going to start painting the little guy white here shortly!
