Cross-posted from my LJ, since I know you guys will help drown my sorrows from part two of today’s…mishaps. 🙁
Oh.
My.
*expletive deleted*
I’m not touching *anything* else breakable tonight. Not gonna do it. Nope.
One might ask me, “Why, Tyrr?”
Well…
I was working on Cornet #2 today, using a rather elaborate setup to get to the mouthpipe dents when the cornet slipped out of my grip, off the Roth tool…
and BOUNCED on the concrete floor. *CLANGclatterclatterclatter*
The bell flare got mildly mangled and the bow crook (which I had spent the last TWO days working dents out of) had a HUGE dent in it.
Good thing our class motto is “We can fix anything we repair.”
Ah, but that’s not all!
After class I went to the gym (good me!) and came back to the apartment. I noticed that the TV was dusty as well as the shelves holding my Windstones, so I mixed up a nice eco-friendly glass-cleaning solution a-la “How Clean is Your House” and cleaned off the TV screen. Taking the mildly damp cloth, I also worked carefully in and around my Windstones, picking one up at a time to dust around them…not dusting them with the damp cloth, just the shelf.
I wasn’t careful enough.
I lost my grip on my one-of-a-kind, painted-for-me-specifically-by-Melody, based-on-Tyrrlin’s-colors PYO gryphon. She fell over with a loud crack and her beak broke right off. My one-of-a-kind piece…broken.
Of course I didn’t have any superglue. I do now.
Her beak is glued back on, and if you know exactly where to look you can see a teensy chip in the gold color of her beak. I guess the tiny “silver lining” on this tragedy (I had NEVER chipped a Windstone up to this point, and I have…lots) is that the Tyrrlin piece is the ONLY piece I would never, never, never, never sell. Never. No matter how dire my financial situation, that piece is of my character, and has sentimental value above and beyond any monetary gain.
But it doesn’t mitigate the fact that I broke it.
I think I’m going to sit here and not touch anything else tonight. *whimpers*

First, let me hug everyone who’s posted so far. Thank you, I knew you guys would understand.
DM, I’m currently in college studying Band Instrument Repair technology. The cornet I dropped today is the second instrument I’ve worked on and I’ve been spending several hours a day on fixing it. I get graded on these instruments, based on how well I fix them and this cornet is *cursed*. I messed it up twice already, including today. Dropping it caused nearly as much *new* damage as it had when I first opened the case….so I set myself back a bit in repair time. *sighs*
I’m afraid to touch anything else remotely fragile today.
