Like I really need more expenses right now. Last Friday, I noticed one of my birds was limping and favoring one foot. Even when he was still he had it lifted slightly off the perch. Well since he won’t talk to me and I can’t read birdie minds I take him to the vet. They took x-rays–no fractures, broken bones or such and then did a blood panel to see if he could be developing gout. Well everything turned up negative and so now they suspect he could have pulled something slightly like you and I could sprain our ankle. I was given pain medication for him but with the visit, x-rays and blood panel taken, it cost me a little bit to just tell me they could find nothing seriously wrong with him.
Then Monday I notice my right rear tire pressure is low–gives you those results before you even start the car. Wasn’t too bad and the next day I went and got gas and put some air into that tire. Well everything seemed fine and I figured I’d check on it the next today. Well today I check it and the pressure was even lower!!!!!! Crap!!!!
So I take it down and found that there was a nail in the tire so it was taken care of and the repair wasn’t that expensive. But they did have a program which is like insurance for your tires [this is the second time in 2 years I’ve had to do a repair and had to replace a tire last year]. I figured with my luck going with these tires it would be a good idea. The coverage is for 5 years but had to come up with some money up front.
Didn’t have to get the coverage but some bad luck has been coming my way and I figured since I now have coverage–I probably will never have to use it! I can’t even stay home to save money!!! Seems like something is always coming up that makes me have to use the credit card! Crap!!
So how has your day been??!!
April 28, 2010 at 11:55 pm #813236I’m sorry. *cyberhug and e-chocolate, I’m weird and don’t like sweets so you can have it all!* I hope this is the end of the bad luck run, and thankful that your bird wasn’t really ill. All too often they hide things until it’s too late to help.
My month has really $#@&*^% lately because of work, but there has been some hope. My husband got into the Census. He was talking to his supervisor today, and told him that I did Census back in 2000, that I didn’t apply this time because of my job, but now find myself with free time. The supervisor said he believed they would still be interested in hiring experienced people, especially since I speak some Spanish and they have a dearth of Spanish speaking enumerators locally.
My brother’s girlfriend also may have something. She is a head librarian in our county, and said that they are fairly often looking for people to do the shelving and suchlike. And, at $10/hr, the pay is a fair bit more than what I’m earning now. Hey, I worked in the library in high school, I can do that…:) She’ll let me know when she sees another opening, and give me a good word.April 29, 2010 at 12:40 am #813237How is your bird doing? Did the pain medication work? And what type of bird is he? He is a very lucky bird to have you as his person – a lot of people wouldn’t have taken him to the vet. I hope he appreciates you!
And I totally sympathize with you about the tire – I seem to have bad tire karma. Whenever I get a flat it seems to be right after the warranty expired or I have to replace a couple of them due to wear and tear. Although I have never had a blow out so I shouldn’t complain.
I’m going to cross my fingers and hope your luck changes. Maybe you will find some money in a pocket or in a purse you thought was empty! Or do you ever buy lottery tickets? I’m not big on lottery tickets but my mom always set aside a little money every week to buy a couple of tickets. She said it was worth it just to have that feeling of anticipation right before they pulled the numbers (and she did win sometimes – once she won enough to go to California and she took me with her – we had a blast!)
April 29, 2010 at 1:17 am #813238I found this particular subject line humorous because it’s raining here today…. which totally wrecked my day. Nothing like getting soaked walking out in the rain, to come in and work in a 5 degree Celsius (41F) cooler. *brr*
I hope your luck changes! I’m with pipsxlch and you can have all my e-chocolate! And you can have some ((hugs)) from me as well.
Even though the bird cost you money, I think it’s probably better to get him looked at and find out nothing’s wrong, then to not get him looked at and find out too late that something *was* wrong. And I’m glad he’s okay!

Thanks for the e-chocolates everyone! Well my bird is doing just fine–along with favoring that one foot he wasn’t very vocal either–usually an indication that something is wrong with a bird. You have to act quickly with birds because they hide their symptoms very well and so when you really start to notice something is wrong, it is sometimes too late. Anything with the feet is usually a vet visit. I did have to spend some money but he is okay. The pain meds I gave him are working and he is now chattering away and not favoring that foot. So he could have pulled something–the x-ray did show a very, very slight hint of swelling. I’m a little poorer but I’m glad. He is a Princess of Whales Parakeet and his name is Alfie. I have a picture here but it probably isn’t doing him justice. His tail is 13 inches long and his colors are pastels–light lavendar on the crown, blues, pinks and greens–like a water color painting!

One little turn of luck–a friend of mine called me last night and wanted to know if I’d work the store for them this Saturday. They have a bird store and I spend a lot of time down there anyway. She’s going with her daughter-in-law to pick up baby birds and to see the manufactured home the daughter is buying. So now I have grocery money!
April 29, 2010 at 8:58 pm #813240Aw, pretty birdie. Glad he’s okay, even if it did cost you to find out.
April 29, 2010 at 9:57 pm #813241Crap like that always seem to happen all at the same time

Pretty birdie. He’s got a nice long tail. Hoping your luck changes for the better.
