I have never made food for a potluck before, but I need one soon! I thought I’d ask you guys! 😀
October 18, 2007 at 7:16 pm #627414Is it a pot luck that is going to have children there? If so my suggestion would be finger-sized peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. So many people fix all these fancy sandwiches and food forgetting that children often don’t go for that stuff. Heck I don’t eat a lot of that stuff either so it would be nice to have the option of something normal other than fried chicken. I decided this year from now on when I go to the family reunion my husband’s family has each year I’m going to take PB&Js.
October 18, 2007 at 7:18 pm #627415My bf has potlucks at work every couple of months. Salads are always good. Deviled eggs are always a hit, they disappear in a snap and they’re easy to make.
October 18, 2007 at 7:32 pm #627416Finger foods are good. Normally, when I go to potlucks I get assigned a type of food or a catagory like cassaroles, or dessert etc.
If I have my way I would take something like deviled eggs, or a small veggie tray. Or a green salad.
October 18, 2007 at 7:58 pm #627417I always bring my chocolate chip oatmeal cookies 😀
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

Cheesecake is so good. But, so expensive, and time consuming. My grandma used to make the best cherry cheesecake, I really need to get the recipe from my uncle or whoever knows how to make it.
October 19, 2007 at 1:50 am #627420I’m really bad with potlucks unless I bring a dessert. I like making Snicker Apple Salad. Yummy, super easy to make, and lets me have some without consuming the entire thing myself (which I have done, so I don’t make it unless others are eating it).
5-6 Granny Smith apples
6 reg. size Snicker bars (a bag or so of Snickers Bites works too)
1 sm box (3oz?) instant vanilla pudding
1/4 cup milk
1 (8 oz.) tub plain Cool WhipDice apples & Snickers (chill Snickers bars well for less messy prep: room temp is melty, frozen shatters chocolate). Mix milk, pudding mix, & CW and pour over apples & Snickers. Mix it up, chill an hour or so, and you’re ready to go. I want some soooo bad now.

Cheat! No bake cheese cake… get some carmel that you’d put in icecream and once you have the no bake all mixed up, and in the crust (I buy the permade gram cracker crust) add some of the carmel and stir it in to make it look marbley…. let it set up in the frig and after that add more carmel on top in a jazzy design or something…. its cheep, easy, and GOOD!
October 21, 2007 at 2:20 pm #627423*nods head sagely* yep. I’ve no scruples about shortcuts to good food!! 😀
October 21, 2007 at 8:16 pm #627424Oh that Snickers Salad sounds good I’ll have to try it. When I go to a potluck, my senior roller skating group has them at Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. I usually take chinese chews
because they are easy to make and everybody there likes them.Chinese Chews
1 12 oz bag chip chocolates
1 12 oz bag peanut butter chipsMelt in double boiler and stir together.
Stir in 2 large cans of Chinese noodles then drop on cookie sheet covered with was paper (approx. 1 large table spoon size). Refrigerate for several hours until set up. Keep refrigerated until almost time to use.
October 23, 2007 at 1:38 am #627425There are plenty of sweet tooths in here! ;D Thanks for all of the ideas, and I might try some of those recipes!
