You get paid to collect Windstones?

We’ve all been there painting-wise, this is true. And it’s not nice to mock this gal’s painting skill.
But we have not all been where this person is.
SHE is the one who chose to be dishonest. We wouldn’t even be discussing this here if she hadn’t. It’d be a “oh look, new PYO person. Let’s invite her to the forum!” discussion if she hadn’t chosen to steal Watergazer’s picture, and try to cheat people with it.
We shouldn’t be mean, no. But there are consequences to dishonesty, and one of them is that people don’t like or trust you once you’ve done something dishonest. I don’t like her. I don’t like that she tried to cheat people. I don’t like that she stole somebody else’s images and claimed them as her own. There’s nothing wrong at all with being a beginning artist, but there’s lots wrong with being a thief. And I also think that calling yourself a professional when you are very obviously not is both foolish and dishonest all over again. I wouldn’t call myself a professional painter. I’m not! Professional means that this is what you do for some notable portion of your income!
A lot of people here are nice and kind and forgiving, and I’d probably eventually be forgiving too, if this gal came here and apologized. It has happened before. But it’s going to take quite a bit of good behavior before I forget that she deliberately tried to cheat people, KNOWING that her art wasn’t up to professional quality. And you really can’t say she just didn’t know, because if she just didn’t know her art wasn’t professional, she wouldn’t have had to go steal somebody else’s photos now, would she?
*Ahem* Sorry, this has become a bit of a rant. But I’m a firm believer in people taking responsibility, and not getting out of trouble. If you do something stupid, you need to fix it, or live with the consequences of it. It’s lovely how nice folks here are, I guess I could be nicer, but I’m not going to say I like this gal, or feel sorry for her! I don’t!
May 18, 2007 at 3:59 am #575254Thanks for being direct, SPark. I agree.
May 18, 2007 at 4:25 am #575255My point exactly.
My earlier comment wasn’t meant to mock her painting skill, only to point out the difference in skill between herself and watergazer.
Like Spark said, there is nothing wrong with being a less skillful painter, what is wrong is misrepresenting yourself.
May 18, 2007 at 4:32 am #575256Even though the girl did the wrong thing, it’s probably good to make sure we don’t sink to her level by making a bunch of petty comments because we think she deserves it. That’s when it starts to sound like rationalizing what is still not nice behavior at the end of the day, a little bit like “she started it!” eh? =)
I hope that seller has learned her lesson, that was not a nice thing to do to Watergazer at all *hugs for Watergazer*

Well, I don’t entirely agree with you sunhawk. I don’t believe that you can call the previous comments “sinking to her level”, for one thing, although it’s happened in the past, I don’t think that people have really made petty comments here. Mainly just pointed out wrongful behaviour.
Also, in my opinion, this particular behaviour (the seller’s), goes beyong “not nice” and right into dishonest. Which is hurtful, not only to watergazer as a person, but also potentially to her professional reputation. And to the buyers as well, since as we’ve seen, this was a repeat offense that just went unnoticed the first time around.

No I pay them to keep my addiction goingI’d like to know why poeple think they have to steal to get by
May 18, 2007 at 6:50 am #575259I agree totally with SPark. Esp since I am the one she lied to and got rude with. I would not like to converse with this person even if they did come here and apologize. I personally dont think someone like this ever would admit to being wrong. Just makes them even more unlikable.

Professional means you get paid to do something. 😉
May 18, 2007 at 7:08 am #575261it does not have to include pay. Profesional golfers and bowlers do not get paid unless they win etc…
May 18, 2007 at 3:08 pm #575262What about the professional junk food & nacho eaters? 🙂
Stealing the photo was like plagiarism, and the awesomeness of modern technology has made it so easy to do kind of theft. Unfortunately, some people don’t consider it stealing as there is not a physical item involved and they just don’t get that it really is stealing. I’m having to deal with this constantly, and I try to emphasize that plagiarism (or in this case stealing the photo) is actually worse than stealing, as there is someone’s effort/thoughts/personality behind what was taken and falsely claimed. ROFL!
May 18, 2007 at 5:50 pm #575265AnonymousI hope no one misunderstood me when I asked if she was invited to the forum. I was talking about the person who had bought the misrepresented piece the first go around, not the seller.
