Awww…Maplecarver, I want to see a baby duck yawn! 😀
August 19, 2008 at 12:31 am #724311The smell of the pine woods around here in the summer.
The sounds of crickets and katydids on warm summer nights.
Riding one of my horses bareback at a gallop, feeling their muscles move and the way it’s like riding a rocking horse, only with the wind in your face for real.
Sitting in my sunporch on a bright sunny day, and painting.
Whipoorwills.
Watching a thunderstorm approach.
Feeling recharged after the storm has gone by.
Seeing a newborn foal stand for the first time, and hearing it’s Momma’s welcoming nicker.
Listening to and watching my husband play his bass guitar.
Singing.
Petting our cats, and feeling them purr so hard, their whiskers tremble.
Hearing the funny guineapig noises our one cat makes.
Sitting in front of the fireplace in the winter, with a mug of mulled wine, and watching it snow.
Going on a full moon night ride in the winter with friends, on horseback.
Curling up next to my husband in bed, when the sheets are still cold on my side of the bed, and listening to his heartbeat while I wait to warm up.
The smell of new mown hay.
The smell of the woods on a warm summer day after it rained.
And the ability to have and enjoy all of these things, and then some!
August 27, 2008 at 2:26 pm #724312Oh!! Thanks tasgrs, for reminding me about whipoorwills! We don’t have them here, but they were all over Texas when I was little… 😀
I need to find a sound-machine that has whipoorwills on it 8)
September 2, 2008 at 1:01 am #724313Hearing a song from the early 90’s on the radio, and remembering falling asleep to it in the backseat of the car when I was small.
Surprise phone calls from my best friend.
Walking in the woods, any time of year.
Doing well on a test I studied hard for.
Acting stupid with my mom and little brother.
The smell of wood smoke and leaves in the fall.
Jumping out of the car after a long trip and running to hug my grandparents.
Watching the moon wax and wane, and reflecting on the passage of time.
The first dandelion of spring.
Burying my face in a bunch of lilacs.
Surprising people.
Making a bouquet of the first white clovers of summer.
Looking up for no reason and seeing a rainbow.
Seeing a wild animal unexpectedly.
Laying on the carpet with my cat, sharing the last sunbeam of the evening.
Sitting by the fire when it’s the only light in the house, just listening to the clock tick and the fire crackle.
The smell of rain, and the sound of distant thunder.
The first snow of winter.
Stargazing alone in the middle of the night.
Walking through spring grass barefoot, before it’s cut for the first time that season.
Walking through puddles barefoot.
Summer sunsets.
Winter sunrises.
Mist and fog over the fields on autumn mornings.
A warm cup of coffee in my hand when it’s chilly.
Having a baby or young child smile at me, for no other reason than they’re happy enough to smile at a stranger. -
