      Ok… I’m easily confused.

Go mac n’ cheese…. and raman noodles. University student staples. NomNom.

Cheez-Its, Oreos, Wheat Thins, Goldfish, and Milanos made my last year of college so much easier! 😆

Ahhh, but nothing beats dark chocolate for a college student for the levels of filling fat, peppy caffeine and tastiness in one package. The perfect paper writing food in my experience. (though Ben & Jerrys for a treat and peanut butter as a staple can’t be argued with) 😆

Regarding Ebay, I’ve done a little bit of stuff there, and here are my thoughts…

Avoid setting a reserve price. It annoys the heck out of bidders and the item probably won’t go for what it should. If you want to play it safe, setting your minimum bid for the lowest amount you’ll accept is far simpler.

Be crystal clear on shipping charges. Buyers can get snippy about that. If you have a digital kitchen scale that measures ounces, that’s an excellent tool for calculating shipping (adding for packing material etc).

Communication is key. Describing every little thing on the item, and your packing/return/shipping etc policies is very essential. But at the same time that you’ll need to be detailed, you’ll also need to be clear which means only saying what is necessary. Rather annoying catch. 😕

And with the economy in such a delightfully stable and robust state, make sure that each item you place on Ebay is either unusual, in high demand or a good deal for the buyer. A ton of labor goes into writing descriptions, filling out the auction page info, estimating shipping, taking and uploading pictures, answering questions, packing, labeling and shipping. So if you only get $5 or $10 for a specific item, it may have been a better use of time to just take it to Goodwill, or hold a garage sale and label it $2. Searching for similar items on Ebay and watching those auctions may be a good way to test the waters, if you have time.

And there’s nothing sweeter for the buyer or more convenient for the seller than a properly priced ‘Buy it Now’ option.

        Either way, good luck. 🙂

That is excellent advice, Maplecarver! Eaglefeather, do you buy on e-bay? As a buyer, what do you appreciate from sellers? What irritates you? From a buyer’s perspective, keep in mind what you look for from a good seller. That should help too! 😀

I”ve also been thinking about selling items to make some extra money to make ends meet.

What about payment options? I have a paypal acct, but if I use it for Ebay transactions, I have to make the acct a business acct and then I get charges.

Do you prefer the paypal business acct or do you only accept checks to avoid the paypal charges?

If you want to sell and accept checks/money orders, you better do it soon. Starting late October 2008, eBay is going to paperless payments, except for certain categories, such as Motors and Real Estate. It seems you’ll still be able to mention checks/MOs in your descriptions until Jan 2009, though.

There are some links with further info at the bottom of that page.

Oh, I don’t like that new rule at all! This may drive me from e-bay. 😕

          #727682

Thanks for the info. I don’t think bother with Ebay then.

That new rule seems kind of harsh on the little guy.

          #727683

          Yeah…I don’t think I’ll sell…I don’t know. 😕

          #727684

No more money orders or cheques??? Ouch. I don’t accept those anyway, but still… ouch.

IMO, even worse is their new policy to protect buyers. If you have less than X amount of positive feedback, or if the item sells for over a hundred bucks paypal holds the money for 21 days. Unless the buyer posts positive feedback, or 3 days after they verify delivery and you enter the tracking details once shipped. So about a week or so to get the cash. I’m all for protecting buyers, but for us little guys who only sell stuff when we absolutely have to, in order to make ends meet – it sucks. I paid over $50 to ship (wow shipping went up!) an OW last week that after all the fees and red tape I actually get to keep a hundred bucks of, and I still don’t have the buyer’s money for him in hand. Four auctions end today, and shipping fees for those have to come out of an already threadbare pocket. Hell, nevermind that the only reason I’m selling these is to pay bills. 🙄

This is my last batch of auctions. I’m never selling on ebay again. It’s just too much trouble.
