      That is so sad….

It reminds me when (back in the summer) I was driving down a back road and I came around this sharp turn and almost ran over a box turtle….luckily I just missed him. I think we scared each other. But I pulled into a drive way to go back and help him cross the road and just when I get there this fool in a big pick up truck comes barreling down the road and ran him right over.
I was heartbroken. Had I just stopped in the first place instead of turning around in the nearest drive way I could have saved him. 🙄
I think I was more mad at the dude in the truck than myself though.
That sounds like what happen to me when I went right over a cockateil but didn’t hurt him so I turned at the next intersection to get back and try to save him…by the time I got there a dumptruck ran right over him and squashed him in front of my eyes.
I saw 4 animals (raccoon, cat, deer, cockateil) get hit in front of my eyes in my life and I still can’t get the images out of my head.
It’s one thing when you see then already dead on the road (which make me sad everytime) but to see it happen is just heartrending.

I went to see these wild deers two days ago (feb 17,2009) and took the opportunity to photograh them since they are not to scared at this time of year. While I was filming these deers in front of me I notice that their attention was focused beside me. I could hear something approching so I stayed in the same position facing the deers and just swung my camera towards the noise. Behold another deer approching me, at this point I’m getting so excited because he is comming straight for me!
In my excitment I accidently hit the record button and that caused it to stop recording but I had yet to notice. The deer nibbled on my fingers and I stroked his face, he startled and walk away. When I followed him with the camera that is when I notice that it wasn’t recording.

        So I called him back.
You can see in the next video what happened.

These deers are wild but for the past two winters they have been approching people for food. It is not recommended to feed them since they could get sick from bacteria on food given to them by humans.
So when I go take pictures of them I never bring food but they are so used to me by now that they still come very close. This one did even if it already knew I didn’t have food to give.

Seems you could give them hay. a few bales a day would make them less hungry. 😕 they’re a ruminate like a goat, so hay and corn wouldn’t hurt them.

It is illegal in many (not all but many) areas to feed deer because of Chronic Wasting Disease. This is a non-bacterial and non-viral disease that deer pass from one to another in areas where they feed again and again (e.g. feeding troughs).

Welcome to the Chronic Wasting Disease Alliance’s Website.

It is a very serious illness and causes the deer to suffer greatly. (this is for everyone to read, I’m not targeting BDW !) I know it seems cruel to let them starve and truly I feel terrible for any starving creature, but you may be saving entire populations if you don’t feed them, especially in areas where Chronic Wasting Disease is present. If you are worried about deer starvation rates in your area then consider contacting your local Fish/Game department and ask what deer management measures are in place. (They will probably tell you hunting, which is actually the best thing for deer populations as a whole, unless someday the entire nation has all of its top predators back, which sadly is a whole other can of beans..)

I wish but if they find out who I could get a fine. They are on NCC property and it is not permited…the law.
I could even get in trouble for getting friendly with them and walking with them.
I was notified by an agent last year. 😳 But you know how much I listen…
It could also hurt the deer to feed them like I mentioned earlier in the thread. I don’t want to take a chance.

I don’t feel targeted since I never feed them…but I won’t let them stop me from taking pics 😉

I’m not worried this year…last year was different since we had so much snow and the deers did starve.
This year was kind of normal. And me and mom did see lots of dead deers that got attack by wolves, This is also normal. So it’s nature’s law and I respect that.
What I think is happening with “my” deers is that people are feeding them and that is why the are curious everytime a human goes there….this is bad. More deers come down and get less vigilant and get hit by cars or attacked by dogs.
As much as I like to take pics of them maybe the CCN should put more surveillance in that area. 🙁
