…but it will be worth it. No more birth control ever! Love it!

At the end of Sept. I’ll be getting the Essure system put in, it’s basically a tubal ligation without surgery…much easier…they insert these little plugs into the fallopian tubes, and your body forms scar tissue around them and 3 months later, wha la, permanent solution. They use your natural pathways into the area, so no surgery…and recovery is less than a day…gotta love it!

Anyway, it isn’t going to be cheap, but thankfully insurance does cover some of it, so they will be taking a little over half of the cost off my hands. But it is still going to cost me $1230…ouch.

But we added it up…in the 2 years since Karli’s birth we’ve spent that much already in BC pills…so it makes sense to stop wasting the money on a stop gap and spend it on a permanent solution.

Anyway…I’ll be broke, but it will be worth it.

I am probably oversharing, but when I first found out about this procedure it was $6000 and there was only one doctor in all of Idaho that did it. Now there are 38, and I have insurance that will cover some of the cost…and the total without insurance is only $2700…that’s much more affordable, especially once insurance pitches in it’s bit.

Congratulations! I don’t think you overshared! I had no idea that kind of procedure existed as an alternative to getting your tubes tied!

Congrats! And it sounds like the procedure is safer than the pills – they can have side effects. Especially as women get older. Not that I’m saying you are old 😳 it’s just we all get a little older every day! πŸ˜†

Is it better then getting your tubes tied (other then the obvious lack of having to cut open)? As in, the question is, is there less of a chance of … well tying the tubes, they can untie, right? So is there a lower chance of this… ah… plug coming out?

I’d like to know that too. I’m so tired of BC pills. Although at my age they might be a plus πŸ˜†

I remember hearing about that procedure but didn’t know it cost that much. I’m sure in the long run you save loads of cash not having to get birth control. I’m lucky that I don’t have to spend money one bc, its the only good side of infertility.

Hmmm…I didn’t even know that was an option! EVen though my hubby doesn’t want to have more kids, I have told him that I don’t want my tubes tied. I’m not going to make my body uncapable of having more kids when I want them!

I like that idea of the simple procedure! Plus, you don’t have to remember to take the pills, and there aren’t any of those nasty side effects! πŸ˜€

        that sounds awesome!

Is it a reversable process if you change your mind?

Not reversible, this is a permanent solution. Main deal is that it is outpatient, recovery time is nil, and is relatively noninvasive.

I had a tubal ligation back when it first bcame available I think around 1970 and all the doctor did was make about a 1″ incision in the belly button and anything around your waist was uncomfortable for about a week but that was because I was allergic to the bandaid. You did have to go to the hospital as an outpatient for about 4 hours and they did put you out but it wasn’t bad and at that time my insurance company paid 100% of the cost.

My mom had told me about a non-surgery procedure in France that could very well be this one. When I asked my doctor about it, he didn’t have a clue what I was talking about. Good for you!

When we looked into permanent solutions, my doctor said that the surgery for men would be better, as it is less invasive than for women, and has less side effects, like more intense cramps, etc.
