I luuuurv your “shiny hat” and how fun is that to be Queen! Used to be in SCA but then had twins and my spare time dissapeared…

It is truly an amazing experience to be Queen, empowering and humbling at the same time. The best things are being able to recognize deserving people with awards and having the opportunity to get to know so many people I look up to.
Spare time? Whats that? 😉
September 2, 2009 at 12:33 am #780825By any chance have you a tutorial for the lovely headpiece in your avatar? I’m always on the lookout for new techniques and tips for costuming…

That headpiece was a complete experiement; I’ve only ever made the one and winged it the whole time. I even tried my hand at sculpting and made the ‘tikka’ (the jewel at the center of my forehead) from sculpty! I was beyond thrilled with how it came out. I don’t have a tuturoial but I do have some photos I took of it that can give a little bit of an idea of how it went together that I can link you to if you’d like; PM me your email address and I will forward! 🙂

September 2, 2009 at 2:29 am #780828Welcome! I just got a chance to check out your costuming. WOW!! 😮 I’m so in love with the Pink and Black Diamonds costumes…..FLUFFFIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEESSS!! I’ve done a few burlesque themed costumes, and my favorite to date was a peacock themed one with feathers everywhere, but yours are about 100 times fluffier (i.e., better!) heehee! Congrats on your Uni win and good luck with capturing the rest!

Sounds like we have a bit more in common that just Windstones! 😉 I did a peacock burlesque outfit (for my one burlesque performance I’ve ever done), not too many pics of it (but did manage to get a video!):
You can see the shimmery blue / green of the fabric in this one and my awesome feather facinator
My Pink Diamonds costume has alot more feathers though of course; they are a ton of fun to play with! 🙂 Need to wear it again; they have been hanging out in my closet for far too long!
September 2, 2009 at 10:33 pm #780830Do you have a good source for those extra large boas?
I wish I had taken some photos of my costume before I gave it to the recipient–we were very similar in size so it fit me too. I made a headpiece for it also, it was very heavy though. It worked in my hair since it’s thick, but wouldn’t stand up in the recipients, so she used it as a fan instead and no one was the wiser 🙂
I have the sketch up on my DA account. It came out pretty close to this in the end! Minus the cape of peacock feathers though. The blue fabric was an exquisite teal brocade. The back of the corset laced up with D rings and a 2″ wide ribbon I hand-made out of the same material, and had a big ‘ol bow at the bottom.

(Yes, 2K) 😳
LOVE the sketch! Wish there were pics of it in action too!
September 3, 2009 at 4:41 pm #780832Just looked through your costuming site. Wowzers! And hey I know the girl in the Lady Killer Croc costume in the female version of Batman villans photoshoot. We were in the same anime club in college.
Seeing the detail in your costumes makes the costumes I’ve made seem simple in comparison.
A ren fair costume for my son. I’ll probably make a jedi one for him at some point since he has two lightsabers.
Two versions of a ren fair dress for myself. First one (left) was before my son was born, second (right) was after. I can finally fit back into the originalSeptember 3, 2009 at 5:01 pm #780833Cool you know Killer Croc! LOL! She was alot of fun. We did that group at DragonCon which is actually going on this weekend; I am mourning the fact that I am not in Atlanta like I usually am at this time. But, Queenly duties call and DragonCon will be there next year.
Your costumes are great and your son is so cute! If you haven’t seen it already, my friend Maggie has a great site for info on Star Wars costumes: http://www.padawansguide.com/ Lotsa tips & tricks on Jedi outfits on there! 😉
