In honor of Arlla’s recent nuptuals, does anyone have interesting (or horror) stories about weddings?
August 14, 2007 at 8:11 pm #492294August 14, 2007 at 8:24 pm #608122When my husband and I got married June 28, 2003, we were taking some of the wedding photos before hand. I was in another room while my husband was having photos with my bridesmaids. Just as they all leaned in to give him a kiss on the cheek the power went out. The power didn’t come back on until just before I walked down the isle about 2 hours later. The cause of the outage? A snake stretched himself across two insulating posts for electric wires, frying himself and leaving two cities without power. My mom was more freaked out about it than I was.
Also during the ceremony a baby cried on cue with the pastor saying something about “a baby’s cry”, someone’s cell phone started ringing duing our vows (found out later it was the organist’s) and my maid of honor dropped my husband’s ring on the floor.
We didn’t let any of it phase us though. We had a great time and laughter was constant throughout the day.
August 14, 2007 at 8:26 pm #608123My husband and I went to Vegas and were married by the Grim Reaper in a graveyard setting. We both wore all black and our rings were LOTR The One Ring replicas. We had each already done the big family wedding thing, so we wanted to do something “our” way this time around. We had a blast. π
August 14, 2007 at 8:31 pm #608124I’m married but we haven’t had a wedding yet. I really want to do something zainy but still within the limits to please my family. Weddings are more for the family, anyway. I am thinking of having Larry do the vows, hawkbrothers style. Maybe I can get him to bring his owl.

OOOO that would be neat!
August 14, 2007 at 9:50 pm #608127My sister-in-law went to her nephew’s wedding which had been planned quickly because he was getting shipped out to Iraq. It was raining heavily and the church flooded and the city’s major bridges were all closed to fear of flooding (I forget the city). So the bride is on one side of the flood and the groom is on the other and the church is under water. Naturally the wedding was cancelled for that day. While the groom was home when he was supposed to be at the church he gets a call – his orders have been changed. Instead of going to Iraq he is being stationed in HAWAII and his wife can go with him! They held the wedding the next day missing at least 1/4 of the guests who had to leave to go home, including my sister-in-law. But the bride said she didn’t care – she got the best wedding present possible.
August 14, 2007 at 9:56 pm #608128During the vows at my Sisters wedding my cousin (5 years old at the time) decided he was too hot, stripped naked and streaked up to Daddy who was an Usher at the Wedding. π I just wish we got it on film to embarrass him. (now he’s entering grade 10)
August 14, 2007 at 9:56 pm #608129At my sisters wedding reception, when the bride and groom got up to do thier speaches my sister did hers and when it was the husbands turn he took the mike, looked out over the audience, looked at her and said quite seriously… “I’m not allowed to talk”. Everyone thought that was hilarious and he got the ‘death glare’ from my sister. My brother-in-law is quite the joker so we knew something was going to happen!
August 14, 2007 at 9:57 pm #608130Very cool…I could never handle the stress of being the center of attention…We got a simple set of “I do”s at the courthouse and I was still so nervous I stumbled through and said the wrong thing…I was so nervous I was asking myself “are you sure about this?” and when I was supposed to say I do what came out was “I guess so…” I didn’t even realize what I had done (I swear I’d said “I do”) but apparently what was in my head came out my mouth. π
I had just came back from meeting my father for the first time and Chris picked me up from the airport, asked me there and when I said yes he made a beeline for the nearest courthouse…there was no planning whatsoever, which was perfect for me! Could you imagine the mess I would have been otherwise? π³ π If we’d had a wedding, I suppose I would have liked a simple cookout with a few freinds and perhaps one of those trellis archways…we’d have to burn marshmallows after, my favorite! I suppose I’m sort of simple hearted, I’m not huge on fancy stuff…It seems funny that I can’t even count the wedding cakes I’ve done for others but I never actually had one myself…hmmm…I never really missed it either, I’m just thrilled to have my family. π I may have to bake us a big anniversary cake or something this year, we’ll have been married 8 years!
August 14, 2007 at 10:15 pm #608131When my friends Marc and Kim got married they added a little twist no one expected. Our friend Jim was Best Man, and he was goofing off in the background as the Priest was beginning the ceremony, mouthing the wedding lines from Princess Bride. Imagine everyone’s surprise when the priest said exactly those lines, delivered exactly as they had in the film.
Marc and Kim had made him watch that part of the movie like 6 times.

August 14, 2007 at 10:56 pm #608132A couple of those stories are funny. π
Well when my sister flew to Cali to get married, I was suppose to go but then I missed the flight and then I missed the whole wedding. I was a bride’s maid…I was upset about that for a while.
