Yesterday, just before noon, an F2 tornado touched down just outside of Northwood NH. It hit Deerfield and Epsom NH, both on the other end of Northwood Lake. One woman was killed and many injured. Houses were collapsed, rooves missing, trees everywhere and I mean everywhere. We have a state of emergency here and SO many people have pitched in to help those in need.
Never have I seen first hand such devastation. Never have I felt so humbled. I was just sick for those effected this morning when I was able to drive thru. You could see this path, maybe 30 or 40 feet wide that started across the lake, up in the mountain, came down to the water, across the lake and out the other sideand then gone…There is one house the is just a pile of rubble, litterally, not any structure left all, and there are the boats still tied to the docks w/o a scratch.
We got our power back a little while ago. I’m really suprised, I figured we would leave for vacation tomorrow w/o showers and pile of dirty dishes in the sink……
July 26, 2008 at 12:50 am #725168My sympathy and prayers go out to those affected in this natural disaster. It’s nice to see people pull together to help those in need. If you don’t mind, what does “F2” mean? And how long was the tornado on the ground? It sounds like it was down for at least a minute. I can only imagine what it looks like. I’m glad you are okay! Did you have any warning or did the tornado just come out of nowhere?
July 26, 2008 at 1:01 am #725169I read about that on Yahoo!!!! 😯 When stuff like that happens it really makes you feel helpless. We get a bunch of those nasties here too. So far the good Lord has been watching out for us. I’m so glad you’re ok. 😀
July 26, 2008 at 1:07 am #725170I’m glad you’re ok… tornadoes and the likes always make one feel humble.
Read my books! Volume 1 and 2 of A Dragon Medley are available now.

July 26, 2008 at 9:03 am #725172just out of curiosity, how do you measure how fast the wind is going? and how much was it?
July 26, 2008 at 12:57 pm #725173F2 is a classification for measuring tornados. This Web site explains it better than I ever could.
July 26, 2008 at 1:22 pm #725174I’m glad you guys are all right. My boss and her parents had a close call with the Hugo, MN tornado–it’s quite a scary feeling! 😯
July 26, 2008 at 5:42 pm #725175I am glad to hear you are OK. It is terrible what happen to a lot of people in NH but it seems like there are horrible disasters happening all over the world lately.
July 26, 2008 at 6:05 pm #725176Yikes! So sad that someone died, injuries are more common these days with the warning systems we have today. We had a tornado watch here on Wed, but nothing came of it, though we did have a knarly thunderstorm roll in and roll out in record time…maybe 30 mins from winds and rain to clear skies.
Anyway, I am glad your family is safe and unharmed, so sad for those who were injured and lost property, and the poor woman who didn’t make it. Tornadoes are really something, amazing how much damage they can do in no time at all.

July 26, 2008 at 6:08 pm #725177Yikes! 😯 I’m glad you and your family is safe and unharmed, and my thoughts go out to those effected.
July 26, 2008 at 6:29 pm #725178We had a touchdown in Plymouth MA as well during that storm. I don’t think we had any damages at all though, thank goodness. There were also a few water spouts not too far away from when I live 😯 I couldn’t imagine actually being in your situation though. Just the thought of them being as close as they were is frighteneing enough. It was almost hard to believe since they’re almost unheard of in New England.
I didn’t realize anyone had gotten hurt or died though. That’s awful. I’m glad that you and your family are okay though. It’s not an experience I would want to wish on anyone. I’m so sorry you had to endure it.
