February 16, 2009 at 1:25 pm #733636Things are going slow now for various reasons. Here’s the latest progress though. The gables are done! Just a few little things to do outside. Electrical is next.
February 16, 2009 at 1:36 pm #733637I tlooks great!
February 16, 2009 at 1:39 pm #733638Very nice! 🙂
February 16, 2009 at 2:06 pm #733639Will you be staining/sealing the wood or let the color change naturally? I ask because my parents used to live in a house with wooden sides similar to that. I had been stained a nice chocolate brown before they bought the house. While we live there (from 1987 to 1994) we had to touch up one side due to a hail storm and then before we sold the house my father decided to stain it again himself rather than hiring anyone.
When we removed the faux shutters we discovered that the people hired to do the work had never removed them when airbrushing the stain on so the boards were silvery grey underneath. My father didn’t want to airbrush the stain again so we painted it by hand. The boards were so dry (since it had never been done by hand) that it took 30 gallons! Some of that was because the house was a two story, but still! I don’t even want to think about how many paint brushes we went through. The boards were rough cut pine so they wore the bristles down fast.
February 17, 2009 at 1:27 am #733640The wood (cedar) has been sealed already. Russ will be staining it to match the rest of the house this summer.
February 17, 2009 at 2:40 am #733641looks great!!! I envy you the 😉 Space!!!! My house is so small you can’t turn around without tripping on yourself. (seems there was plenty of room when we first got it, then we started getting stuff) 🙄 dogs and cats and Windstones, oh my. 😆
February 17, 2009 at 3:57 am #733642I know what you mean. When we got married, we tried to consolidate two established households into this little 760 square foot house. Didn’t work too well. When this add on is done we’ll have 1400 square feet! 😮 I can’t wait!
February 17, 2009 at 4:14 pm #733643Room to stretch!!! (Or just put more stuff in… 😈 )

April 21, 2009 at 4:46 am #733644I don’t have any new pictures yet, but we are finally making progress again. We finally got the electrical stuff done. After getting blown off for 3 weeks 🙄 by the guy that was going to do the work, we got someone else who got it done in 3 days. In the mean time, Russ got lots of small stuff done. The insulation was done today, and the sheet rock is being delivered tomorrow. We also got new gutters on the whole house. These guys were also going to do the insulation, but they lost the job after trying to screw us on the gutters. They bid the job at a little over $500, but when we got the bill it was well over $700! Russ called to find out what was up with that and was told that the installers used 100′ over what was bid. Well, the bid didn’t say how much material would be used, just what they were going to do and for how much. Next, he called the salesman who gave the bid. He said they stand by their bid. Russ asked if it was normal for the guys to cut off 4 or 5 feet of material before each gutter they made because that was what they were doing. It wasn’t. The salesman came back out and measured everything and was only 25′ off what he had estimated. What we found out was that the installers were trying to pull a fast one on us. Turns out, they get paid by the foot that they install. The salesman and the owner were not happy! And I think those guys are out of a job. I wonder how many times they’ve pulled that? Good thing is, they did stick to the original bid and we found someone else to do the insulation at $400 less than their bid! The outside of the house is pretty much done except for painting. Pretty soon now, Russ plans on starting on the kitty’s part of the back yard. He wants to get the grass planted before he puts up the fencing.
April 21, 2009 at 12:34 pm #733645Oh, I can’t wait to see the pics!
And I’m glad you caught them in the act. Stuff like that is the reason why we try to do everything ourselves: unacceptable delays, screw ups during installation… dishonest workers is a new one, though.
But you found them out and got a better deal, so yay! :hi:

And since they already have everything masked off, we are going to go ahead and have them paint the base coat (shamrock green) for us too. Then we’ll go back over it later with one or two lighter colors with a sponge roller. The carpet will probably be a darker green. Trim package is next. I posted this first picture before, but I just wanted to show the difference in how the doorway looks now. More later. 🙂
Part of my room.
Looking into Russ’ music room.
The storage area in Russ’ room. The large openings on either side will hold his speakers.
April 29, 2009 at 2:58 am #733647Looking good…I can’t wait to see the final results 😀
April 29, 2009 at 6:03 am #733648I love seeing the progress 🙂
April 29, 2009 at 4:06 pm #733649Wow! Look at all that space! You’ll absolutely love it. The house we are in now has a family room that was added on later in the life of the home and we call it the ‘ballroom’ because it is so huge 😀
