On the surface, I too can see why certain types and calibers are illegal, but it comes back to the fact that now those illegal guns are still out there, it’s just now only the bad guys have them.
There is also holes in the laws. I think it was a .50 cal that was recently outlawed, so someone came out with a .5001 or something silly like that. The new caliber still shot the same type bullets 🙄
I don’t forsee ever having to defend myself. I just like making big holes in inanimate articles.
Mike likes to tell people that if our house was in the midst of The Alamo, we could have laid waste to Santa Ana in about 2 hours! We have a lot of firepower!February 17, 2007 at 5:38 pm #539082Phoenix wrote:On the surface, I too can see why certain types and calibers are illegal, but it comes back to the fact that now those illegal guns are still out there, it’s just now only the bad guys have them.

😆 Well, you’re well prepared at any rate!Yeah, some of these laws don’t seem very well thought through. And I imagine that the really bad neighborhoods where people would want the outlawed weapons are the same ones which have the bad guys who would be likely to have them illegally. So I can see both sides of it. Hopefully they’ve done their studies carefully prior to making the decision to outlaw various weapons.
By the way, I’ve been to the shooting range a couple of times but I found that I’m a really bad shot. I’d probably have trouble hitting a burglar especially when I’m under pressure… 😆 which is one of the reasons that I don’t want a gun.

I’m curious — is this just a personal inclination or does this arise from an observed need, based on your personal experience?
Personally, I’ve never felt the need or the inclination to own a gun.
I don’t need to own a gun because so many people have them over here. That’s the beauty of the whole thing – guns keep crime from happening, they don’t cause it.
I would never live in a place that forbids the ownership of weaponry because it’s a clear indication taht that government is taking away rights every person should have. A man – or woman – with a gun is a citizen, not a subject. Of course it’s entirely up to every individual whether they want to own a weapon. But any government is afraid of a well-armed citizenry. A government that tries to disarm its citizenry is stating clearly that it is now the head honcho, that it does not trust its people with any sort of responsibility or power, that it wants to have the monopoly in might. Monopolies are not good. Power corrupts, and every government, sooner or later, heads down the path of wanting to control everything. Ours are well along that way, but as long as the citizenry owns weapons, they will never be able to institute a police state. Guns are a sign of freedom. That’s why I love them. -
