UPDATE- Buyer got the package, and I realized that because he left me a positive feedback on ebay!!
Go figure!! After all the complaining he did!
Yeesh, some people are just a little bit weird. 😈I’m a little worried here….briefly, I sold a Pleo I had for $100 on eBay. I shipped it on the 19th using Parcel Post instead of Priority, because I only charged $15 for the shipping and realized the Pleo box wasn’t going to fit into the Post Office’s large flat rate box. So I had to pay for “Balloon Parcel Post”, which means they added a $3.50 surcharge for an oversized box. (It was huge about 20x24x20 or something like that.) The buyer is quite a rude person he has no patience whatsoever…but beyond that, he’s complaining he still hasn’t got it. I did explain to him from the get-go (he emailed like 4 days after auction asking where his package was!!) that I used Parcel Post (with delivery conf.) and that even eBay says it can take anywhere from 5-12 days. But he sent me a message today on eBay which was something like “where is my package did you send it from Mars??”
I feel bad because I didn’t send it priority, but I felt as the seller I figured I had the discretion to knock down the shipping by using Parcel Post, because such a large package would have cost me $35 to ship. I had only received $15 for shipping.
I’m hoping the buyer gets it Monday or sometime early next week. I told him if not I’ll ask the P.O about it.
But what are all your opinions on this matter?
I strive to be a good eBayer and I don’t want to get people upset with me. Did I do the right thing?October 26, 2009 at 12:23 am #499459October 26, 2009 at 12:42 am #788489As a seller, you should only charge actual shipping cost. So if he paid you $15 and Parcel Post cost $15, then you did exactly what you should have done. If you gave several shipping options and that’s the one he chose, then that’s the one he got. Period. If it has a tracking number/delivery confirmation number, and you gave it to him, he can check it himself with USPS. Screw him if he’s impatient. Just politely respond saying “I’m sorry that USPS can’t get you your package sooner. I shipped your item XX/XX/XXXX date again here is the delivery confirmation number, please contact USPS to find out where you package is. Also please note that Parcel Post (which is what you paid for) can take up to two weeks to arrive.” If he takes negative action against you keep all your correspondence including the shipping reciept. If you have any other problems, let me know, I’ve delt extensively with eBay over stupid sellers and buyers. Good luck and don’t think you did anything wrong, because you didn’t. He got what he paid for, bottom line.
October 26, 2009 at 12:50 am #788490He sounds like a jerk to me, even if he was desperate to have it for a birthday present or some such. What’s a Pleo? Did you originally say in your auction that you were going to send it Priority (for $15)? Either way, there’s no call for him to get rude, especially since you told him you were going to have to send it Parcel Post instead…a polite person would accept a slight delay as one of the quirks of shopping online, as long as they were informed of it. I wouldn’t feel too bad. People these days seem to expect stuff to be delivered white glove the next day for nothing, thanks to all the online stores competing by trying to offer the cheapest (if not free), fastest shipping.

A Pleo is a robotic dinosaur that’s probably the most advanced robot on the market. Unfortunately, UGOBE, the creator, went out of business so I don’t know if they’ll be making any more. Check out YouTube if you want to see vids of them, they’re really cute and don’t need a remote control, they are autonomous.
Anyway, originally it was listed as Priority Mail using flat rate large box. So I only charged the $15. But when I found out that the box was not the right size I went out of my way to purchase a large box and packing materials so I could get it sent out, but I used parcel post because it was just around the $15. In total I spent about $25 to get this shipped so I was out $10 bucks regardless. I used Parcel Post so I wouldn’t end up getting charged $35 for priority. I still made sure to include delivery conf. though because I insist on having some proof of the package being left at the P.O and then of course when it was delivered.
Ah well….what can I do? At this point I can only hope the buyer gets it Monday. I even left this guy a positive feedback already, I’ll be really annoyed if he leaves me a negative due to shipping issues I have no control over! 😕
October 26, 2009 at 2:31 am #788492That’s part of why I try out different sizes of boxes BEFORE listing something on ebay so I don’t end up with a nasty surprise later on.
October 26, 2009 at 3:04 am #788493I’m a bit confused; did you tell the buyer before you shipped (the “get-go”?) that it would be sent Parcel or 4 days later when he emailed and after you already shipped? I’m not sure I agree with the comments of the other members if it was the second scenario.

Bah, did he pay before you sent an invoice? And did you let him know that the Priority option was going to cost him an additional $20? That’s gonna be a tricky one if you didn’t give him the option to “upgrade” the shipping. Not like there’s much you can do now, but now you know better in the future to make sure your sellers paid for the correct shipping. It’s OK to ask them for more money for shipping as long as it’s the actual shipping cost, ESPECIALY if they pay before you send an invoice!! It’s within your right to charge the actual shipping cost, and if it turns out to me more than originaly posted for whatever reason you can ask the actual shipping on your invoice. But seriously if he has the delivery confirmation number he can go to USPS.com and watch it himself, he doesn’t need to be harassing you, your not going to get it to him any faster at this point.

Hi Lokie, no it was originally priority mail, but I only charged $15. I had to change it to Parcel because I needed a bigger box and so I could keep it around the $15, though I lost another $10 anyway having to buy a bigger box and pay the “balloon fee” because of the size. I did explain all of this to the buyer the instant I realized the problem.
I hope that makes sense! 🙂October 26, 2009 at 2:48 pm #788496I am only half awake so forgive me if I missed it, but did you put delivery confirmation on it? I swear that extra $0.50 or whatever it is these days has saved my butt on so many occasions!

YES, absolutely. I don’t send a package without some way to track it!
The usps website is saying the package was received on the 19th, but still has not shown delivery. I am guessing it is still in transit.
I researched parcel post, and seeing as how it is a ground service, it can take anywhere from 2-14 days total! 😕October 26, 2009 at 6:09 pm #788498Dragons4Life wrote:Jennifer wrote:I am only half awake so forgive me if I missed it, but did you put delivery confirmation on it? Again it’s USPS, not you, who is lame. 😀

That being the case, can you still go to a USPS office and ask them to confirm delivery somehow?? Otherwise how can I prove for my own sake that it got to him?

Well it will update when the package is delivered, the delivering post man HAS to scan the tag to record delivery, it’s just that not all the postal employees scan in the tag when it goes through their facility if it’s not the final destination location. I hipe that makes sense.
October 27, 2009 at 1:52 am #788501He is just being impatient. I have had to do that before. Next time he bothers you, send him a link with the expected delivery times for the postal service provided.
