🙄 They are calling me out on overdue cat vaccines. I gotta call my vet, cause I thought rabies was every 3 years and distemper was every year. So, they would be overdue on distemper. I wonder if I’m gonna have to haul all 3 cats to the vet now and pay thru the nose to bring them current….

They approved my application!! I have to take the cats in to get thier shots today, but it’s not as bad as I thought. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this pup is still available. All I have left is the phone interview and maybe a home visit, but those are the easy parts…Boy is hubby be suprised! Payback for buying his Yamaha TW200 😆

Wow. I can’t believe the hoops you have to jump through to adopt a pet these days.
I know I have bypassed a couple dogs because of the whole home inspection thing.
I wonder how many dogs lose good homes because it’s too much trouble to “adopt” them.
I know they are trying to do a good thing, but I think they are too picky sometimes.

I am glad you got approved though. I know it’ll have a great home.

We ran into that when we were looking to adopt a new kitten. So many rules and regulations. Home visits? I don’t think so. We ended up getting one from a neighbor. Then another one was dumped in our backyard. Then a pair of sisters through petfinder.com. Then two more from the local recycling yard/dump. Somehow one turned into six. lol 🙄 I’m a sucker and they all needed a good home, sooo…

Congrats on getting the dog – I’m happy to hear it!

I love resuce animals but I think they make the whole adoption process too hard sometimes. When I adopted my first cat from the local shelter I had to give 3 references, vet references, etc. It took weeks for me to hear anything since they had to get ahold of every reference I gave, blah blah blah. Back then it just seemed like the would rather kill the animals then try and give them to a home. Now the shelter is under new management and they adopt out almost all of the animals they have.

That’s good news that the new shelter mgmt. is doing a better job, purpledoggy. I understand that they want the pets to be adopted into good homes, but there has to be a happy medium. I’m sure so many miss out on good homes b/c people can’t be bothered going through so much paperwork:-/

Since the new management change they adopt out animals left and right. Back when they were under the old management they put alot of animals to sleep since they couldn’t find homes for them (they were waaaaaay to picky). Now they give them every chance they can. One cat I adopted from them had been there for a year before I took her home. I think since she was so old no one wanted her.

yeah back when I was looking for a parrot, I found a bird shelter but you had to go to 3 classes and have 2 seperate visits with “your” bird…AND they did a homestudy. The place was 2 hours drive away and it just was not worth all the trouble. I ended up buying a baby instead. Sad really as I had plenty of bird experience and would have made a great mommy. But I love my Cookie boy anyway!

So many places around here lie about a bird’s age, sex, temperament, history, etc. If you want to buy one, they sell it – no experience necessary.
It’s a shame. No happy medium:-/ I guess Cookie was meant for you and hopefully the other bird(s) went to a good home, too.

Our local petstore has a big red macaw (I think) parrot who was too old to sell, so he was the store’s mascot. His name was Corby and he could talk, but most of the time just screamed at people when they were standing by his cage and scared the crap out of them. 😆 I always pictured him as a grumpy old man who liked to scare people.

Anyway, he died a couple months ago (he was like 70?) and the pet store seems so empty now, even though there are plenty of animals there. It’s just so quiet. No one to say “hello” or give an ear-piercing scream in greeting. Because the employees don’t talk to people, that’s for sure. I’m surprised I miss that scream, but I do. It’s sad and quiet now.
