Okay so I usually like to keep my private things private…I actually haven’t told my family about this except my sister since I was a cry baby in the beginging and needed someone to hold my hand *and my hair* but I’m really starting to freak out now…
I’ve been reading up on the reasons a person will have Vertigo and I’m starting to scare the crap outta myself! It’s been going on for about a month now and It’s happened 3 times. I’ve never imagined such a horrible feeling in my life… I went to the eye doctor and a chiropractor and nobody seems to know what’s wrong. The chiropractor reffered me go to a neurosurgen as a final option, but my insurance won’t cover that kind of exhuberant cost I’m trying to find my own solution on why this is happening. I keep thinking I’m in the first stages of a stroke or something…

Have you been checked for sinus,or an inner ear infection?
December 4, 2008 at 3:54 pm #744115Yep, I went the the emergency room the first time it happened. I thought I was having a seizure or something.

December 4, 2008 at 4:15 pm #744117Have your doctors checked for Lymes’ Disease? It can be sneaky and hard to diagnose but a round of antibiotics usually clears it up pretty quickly.

December 4, 2008 at 4:16 pm #744118I have vertigo. It’s caused by an inner ear infection. Get some meclazine (it’s Dramamine, but if you ask the pharmacist for “meclazine” you’ll get a lot of them for under $5). Take one a day, or as needed up to 3 per day. It will help.
Don’t worry. Lots of people get this. If the meclazine doesn’t help, then see a neurologist.
December 4, 2008 at 4:25 pm #744119I get vertigo too. Lasts about a week for me (this is my week for it actually it’s been craptacular) and I get it every few months. It’s mostly an annoyance, and embarassing when I’m walking and all of a sudden everything spins and I start stumbling and people are like “are you okay?” Mine activates when I move from a vertical to a horizontal position or vice a versa, so every morning and every night. Also during the day or night if I tilt my head back or forwards or turn my head too quickly. Heights are a no no for a while but other than that I don’t let it effect much else.
Went to the doctor, she told me that something gets dislodged? or moves or something in my inner ear and it causes the spinning effect. She gave me some head movement excersizes to try to see if they’d help, but they make it 100 times worse :puke: . Other than that, she offered drugs to knock me out if it ever gets too bad and said there’s nothing else they can do about it. 😕
Lovely isn’t it? Have you ever liked rollercoasters? I get that “I’m falling” sensation in my stomach when it happens, blegh.
December 4, 2008 at 4:29 pm #744120Leigha, try the meclazine. I’m serious. It works miracles.
I got vertigo this week too, after not having it for over a year. I wonder if it’s something to do with the weather that can cause the calcium in the inner to break off. It moves around and touches the silica in the inner ear, causing your brain to receive signals that you’re lying down or sitting up, when your eyes are telling your brain something else. It’s the conflict of signals that causes the dizziness and the nausea.
December 4, 2008 at 4:35 pm #744121heh, you remembered it exactly
my mom’s been bugging me to go to our new doctor and ask her about it, I just have to make an appointment and find the time to go.
I’ll write that down and put it on my “list of questions to remember to ask the doctor” 😀
Dramamine makes me sleepy, does meclazine make you drowsy?
December 4, 2008 at 4:46 pm #744122It’s exactly the same thing. I take it every night before I go to bed, so it doesn’t matter. Having my system with a steady supply of meclazine tends to nullify the effects of the vertigo. I can sort of tell when it’s over though, then I stop taking the meclazine until I get another bout.
Make sure you ask for it from your pharmacist. You don’t need a prescription for it. Just ask at the counter. They should have a generic version of about 100 pills for $5.
December 4, 2008 at 4:50 pm #744123Thanks Emerald 😀

Drag0n, do you get weird feelings of eyestrain, your eyes won’t focus properly or flashy lights in front of your eyes when you are feeling Vertigo? If so, you may want to ask your doctor to check your B12 vitamin levels, it’s not something that is normally tested. A B12 deficiency is what causes my cases of vertigo, complete with the eye problems (called ocular migranes)
December 4, 2008 at 6:15 pm #744125Well, I thought it was eye problems at first because I really need glasses and I was reading the first time it happened. I strain my eyes alot, but the eye doctor said that wasn’t the cause. I’m allergic to alot of medicines. Morphine or pretty much any pain killer besides asprin is bad news. Anything I’ve ever taken perscription besides amoxocylin has made me really sick. Like, I want to die, sick. I got checked for an ear infection too aready. The chirpractor said he thinks it could be being caused by a pinched nerve because usually after I have an attack, my whole right side goes numb for a few hours then throbs in pain, then goes numb again. All in my shoulder and along my side.
I can’t imagine what would happen if I was in public and it happened. I can’t even stand up and I throw up constantly. It’s not much fun. :puke:
