I think that is the one thing that would bug me..i would not want my name associated with something that dose not portray my real skills.

      *That* is my issue here.

Most of the time I just shrug and do it because the boss said so, but when my name is on it, I hit my limit.

I *wish* I could write “Gary’s idea!” down in a corner. I’d like to think that most of the folks in that office *know* he’s a punk, but sometimes I wonder.

All good advice already. I would just add that if you hate the kind of boss you have, you should strive to open your own business. I think crummy bosses far outnumber good ones these days. I would document your work, too. You’re bound to run into somebody that’s going to take your work and take the credit for it completely.

Honestly? After all the bad bosses I’ve been through, doing my own thing without a boss is something I’m desperate for, it’s just a ways off yet. I think I’m far too much like my father (who has owned his own business all of his life, and would never ever be able to work *for* someone).

Barrdwing’s idea is a good one though, I just might do that.

As they say, “Know Thyself” 😀 Sounds like a matter of “when” not “if” for you, so I guess you just have to do what you have to do for the present. Having a private file as Barrd suggested is a good idea, I agree. The guy probably knows you have more talent than he does and doesn’t want you to show him up.

My bf is a graphic designer as well. And he does come home with some really bad stories…but at the end of the day, his boss is his boss. Unless my bf can justify why he won’t make the changes, it’s the boss’s final decision (even if it’s crap).

Luckily he’s worked his way up to being an art director so he can say “no” when he has to, which is a lot of the time with account people that have no design background whatsoever.

Hang in there, being in such a service related industry, you’re always going to have to answer to someone. Whether it’s your boss or your client, compromise is the best solution.
