I’m trying to figure out how much variation is in the em. emps. When I see them on ebay, they typically look something like this one:
Very bright green, not a lot of gold, and you can just barely see the jade on his neck and sides.. I can’t figure out if this is just lighting, or if they really do look that bright in real life.Mine is a lot darker. He has a lot of gold on him, and is about 1/2 dark jade and 1/2 bright green. To test out the lighting theory, I turned on all the lights in my room, shone a studio lamp directly on my emp, and took a picture with flash. He still looks nothing like the ebay emps. Here are some of the pics I took of him:
I even put it in photoshop and turned the exposure WAY up, but it didn’t work.

September 12, 2007 at 9:25 pm #615965I NEVER really looked at mine. I just LOVE having him. I will have to look closer at mine now at home
September 13, 2007 at 2:41 am #615966It might be the lighting. I know my Proto Emerald OW looks like your Emp.
September 13, 2007 at 11:55 am #615967The one I got outbid on and the one on the astral castle looks just like yours. I think its just painter styles that differ.
September 14, 2007 at 4:57 am #615968Yours is beautiful and has a lot more color variation than the other style, Pam. Like Ski said, it’s probably different painters. Or yours might be from a later batch. It seems the color scheme gets more complex as it grows older.
September 14, 2007 at 5:24 am #615969I see the obvious variations you bring up here but my first wonderment would be if the flash used to photo the first one was set straight on or brighter than the one you used (unless you shot them both; Im having a blonde moment).
They are both gorgeous but if I had to choose which one I would buy, I like the one in the second set of pix… I think. Im just always been in awe of the Emps and SK cause of their size and the fact I can not have one :pout:
The shot that is front on of the emp makes him look as though he’s frown eyed or scowling at you… it’s an incredible dragony attribute that was captured by Melody. Her creations in this manner are the best (next to literal dreams we have- tho I dont dream about dragons [maybe 2 x] ) reality of what it would be like to be stared down by a formidable opponent- one that is convinced were crunchy but inevitably deciding if we indeed taste better with ketchup, or perhaps a nice dischon mustard (OK I cant spell that word right now)!
September 14, 2007 at 5:26 am #615970PT–the first set of photos was from an ebay listing, I did not take them.
I tried to put as much light on mine as I could.. I had a 60wt bulb, a 40wt bulb, and three 25wt bulbs shining on him, plus camera flash!! I’m going to try taking some pics WAY overexposed, and see what that does..
I would love it if some other em. emp. owners here could post pics of theirs!
September 14, 2007 at 5:29 am #615971Additionally, assuming you didnt take both pix as I assume you didnt based on diff bkgrds, yours looks to have been molded in a new, fresh mold as your scales are more prominent and 3-d tactile and not as smooth as the more greeny emp above. My 2 cents. Yours is still beauty. Im sure others will post their emps here given some time.
I dont know if there are any emerald emps posted in my WISH LIST thread in Flea. You could check as I cant remember.

So emps made from old molds had less “3D-ness” to their scales?
September 14, 2007 at 5:35 am #615973Unfortunately, I do not have any emerald emporers. The few that I have seen in person look like Pam’s. I did see one on ebay about a week ago that was almost jade colored. From my experience, it would seem that the emerald color was darker at first with more jade and gold coloring and gradually over time became a much lighter and brighter green color.

Ooo, do you have a link to that one anywhere??

Id imagine as well as heard it from others here. If the mold (tho same shape) has been newly created, poured or whatever they do in the manner of hitting the “reset” button, the details will come out much stronger and bolder than a mold that has been poured into over and over for too long. Better clarity and sharpness.I cant of course say for certain that is the case here, but going by what I see, your dragon looks sharper with more clarity. I can see the scales better (perhaps added by better painting imo), or by photog whereas the other one looks slightly smoother and I can count the scales as I can on yours if I sit there and do it (I can see at a glance).
Either way, your emp is hot! not to imply stolen 😆
September 14, 2007 at 5:43 am #615976No, I wish I did though. It was in my opinion one of the prettiest emerald emperors I’ve seen. I would’ve put a bid on it if I had the money. May someone else knows which one I’m talking about and can post a link. I doubt it went unnoticed.
