I have never had a cat, so I don’t know what is common for cats to do, so I need your help. My grandma’s neutered male cat (Buster) was given to my grandma a year or two ago, and he has come up missing. He will be missing a for a week starting tomorrow, and it is very unusual for him to be missing for more than a day. My mom is worried about grandma, as am I because she REALLY loves Buster, and talks about him all the time. Grandma called the city a few days ago to see if there had been any cats killed by cars, and that turned up with no results (thankfully) but my mom is assuming the worse. She has mentioned to me that since it’s the month of October there might be people out there who might grab him to sacrifice him. I don’t know about that one. Does anyone know about cat behaviors which might be occuring this time of the month which might make him dissapear for a week, or have you had anything like this happen to your cat? Here is a picture of him, and thanks for any help you can give!
*I forgot to mention that my grandma and my cousin put up flyers yesterday. I wish I could help, but I live so far away! I was told they were going to place the flyers at vet’s offices, and shelters, among other places. He doesn’t have a microchip either. He also had a “fall away” collar, or a “pull away” collar, so it might be possible that the collar was pulled off of him.*
It’s the only picture I have.
****UPDATE*****
Guess what?!?! Buster has returned!!! Yay! I talked to my grandma today, and Buster returned on Sunday exactly three weeks after he went missing. He was trapped in her neighbors shed, and grandma said that he seems a little skinny, but she guesses he must have found a couple of mice in the shed because he is still at a healthy weight. She had him checked with the vet also. One thing though-he seems to have a soar throat-or something-because he can’t meow as well as before.
Lily and Buster seems to get along decently, but Lily views Buster as an intruder because according to her that was her home first. Grandma says that Lily is a little pushy with Buster, but Buster takes it well, and she suspects that they will become good friends in no time!!
Thank you all so much for your concerns and prayers, I know they helped! I know they did because my uncle (who lives with grandma) was working with the neighbor on something, and they needed something in the shed, but they almost went into my uncle’s shed rather than the one that Buster was trapped in-but fortunately they decided to check out the neighbor’s shed first!
Good news always makes for a smiling moment!

Most likely someone picked him up and took him for a stray, or he got taken to the pound. That should be the first place you look. If nothing there, then put up posters. I hope you find him~
October 27, 2007 at 2:30 pm #629782Tigger (my first cat) disapeared for three weeks. We put posters up, asked around everything. A neighbor had him trapped in his garage.
My grandmas last cat went down the street to live with another family during the winter. Then went back and stayed with grandma again in the spring. Next winter went back to the other family.
I’ve also known cats to get into things like trucks and end up in different places.
I’d be worried too, the last time Tigger went missing, he was hit by a car. Picked up by a neighbor and it took three days for this person to be brave enough to bring him over. She brought over his collar first, then the remains.
I hope he shows up. Safe and sound. I’d put posters up, and maybe a lost add in the local paper.
October 27, 2007 at 3:01 pm #629783Such a cutie. Definately call the local shelters and maybe the vet offices as well. Posters and a newspaper ad sound good, and you can always go door to door asking if anyone has seen Buster. Good luck finding him!
October 27, 2007 at 3:25 pm #629784So far you have done all the right things …you might want to talk to the surrounding neighbors. Sometime they can keep a cat thinking it is a stray and even put a collar on him. If there are new people in the neighborhood that could hapen.
My friend has that problem with one of her neighbors and she will have to go tell them to stop keeping him in the house and putting collars on him. I mentioned to her that she should put a collar with tags on him herself.Good luck finding him…hope it ends well. 😀
October 27, 2007 at 3:32 pm #629785Oh something to think about if and when you find the cat. Get him microchipped if possible. Then if he gets lost again and found a scanner can be run over him and it will spit out his information.
October 27, 2007 at 4:15 pm #629786Oh no, the poor kitty. 🙁 I really hope he comes home safely. Depending on the area he lives in, you might want to put an ad on Craigslist with a photo. A few weeks ago my friend found a dog and put the info up and started getting responses the same night.
(and about halloween-I always feel nervous about this time too-our local cat shelter won’t adopt out black cats this month, and one year had all it’s windows and doors broken out 2 nights around halloween. No cats were taken-but still 🙁 )
October 27, 2007 at 4:47 pm #629787You should have called the local shelter when he first went missing. I had a friend whos cat was missing and they didn’t call the shelter. He was adopted out only after two days of being there and they can’t get him back. As far as the killing cats on Halloween I’m so sick of hearing that. I say call up the shelter and send them a picture of your cat and post one at all the local vets offices. This is why I keep my cat indoors.
October 27, 2007 at 5:40 pm #629788I hope your grandmother gets Buster back safe and sound.
October 27, 2007 at 7:00 pm #629789Awww, good luck 🙁 Like everyone else said, poster, call the shelters, check with as many neighbors as you can…I really hope you find him!

-J R R TolkienOctober 27, 2007 at 7:12 pm #629790My kitty did that… I let him outside and he never came home. 🙁 That is why I have indoor only kitties now. There are so many things that could have happened.
I hope that he turns up soon!!!

Ask your grandmother to also call up all the vets she can find in the phone book. Some individuals will take an animal directly to a vet without contacting the city.
Sorry that your grandmother’s cat is missing ; ; I’ve gone through this process twice so I can understand how she feels. I hope he is found safe and sound!
October 27, 2007 at 11:49 pm #629793Hope you find the kitty, he’s so cute. If you do find him, get him microchip-ed as soon as you can.
